Since no one has answered so far, I'll chime in here: The Weber line of pianos are made by Young Chang in Korea, and apparently the uprights have all been redesigned by Del Fandrich (very good indeed!! ) I've never played one myself, but I can give you that much info. Good luck!

My very first post here on Piano World, in March of 2006 (almost 6 years) was to ask questions about a new Weber upright piano I was considering buying. I’m thinking it may have been a 121 (48” tall). Anyway, I was very impressed with it back then, and came close to closing the deal. If my memory seerves me correctly, that piano sounded and played very good to me back then. I’m afraid I don’t know any details on where they are built now, other than Korea. Anyway, welcome to the Piano World forums, and I hope you stick around (like I did ). Rick

I briefly tried the new 114, 121, and 131. They were among my favorites in the store. The "Weber" line (vs. "Albert Weber") is made in China I think: http://www.pianobuyer.com/fall11/193.html

Good luck! I don't think the 121s of my design are coming into the U.S. yet. The best way to tell is to look at the bass bridge -- my designs do not use cantilevers. ddf

Oh, whoops... i was looking at the UK Weber piano website, and they said they (D series upright line) had been redesigned. Sorry. They have all been redesigned but not all of the new designs are in production as yet and, of those that are in production, not all are in all markets. ddf

Thank you all for your comments, and yes, now that I have found this site I plan to be around for a very long time, God Willing. Also, I have just began the process to look for a new piano, I have not played for a number of years and gave my old Kimball studio to my step-brother when I move many years ago, but I have an 8 year old son that is a wiz on the piano, We have a keyboard that he uses for his lessons, and I know it is time to step It up. It has been a real joy to play with him, I have to have him show me technique from time to time. From the time he was five he has like to play, He learned his major scales in a week, so I had to get him lessons, he has been taking for over a year, the one think I would like to say is he has a very nice touch, not a banger on the piano, I was a banger, so I know that he has more of a natural feel for it, this morning I was listening to George Winston, and I walked into the room and he as pretending to play the song, he asked me what this song was “moon” and asked who it was, his eyes just lit up when he hears the piano. Most of the time we listen to Classical music in the house, one day I came home from work and he was playing spring, I asked him how he knew the song, he said the piano taught him, made me smile Anyway back to pianos, I walked through three stores in the area, One of which I would never go back to, the manager yelled at me and my son when we were trying out some used uprights, I just left, The other two were good but not great, one wanted me to buy what the wanted to sell and did not ever ask what I was looking for. The third let me walk around and touch everything with my family. As I did I came across the Weber 121, I don’t know anything about it, but I really liked the feel of the keyboard, and the sound. Kind of felt right. With that being said, I know it would be good for at least 10 maybe 20 years, do you think much of a life after that? With proper care of course, I would hope to get a long life out of it. This is just like the one I saw in the store, if anyone knows anything about it. Here is the link http://weberpiano.com/upright-pianos/weber/w121If the new ones do not use cantilevers, what do they use, Sorry for the question, as I really do not know? Kind Regards, Brian

If the new ones do not use cantilevers, what do they use, Sorry for the question, as I really do not know? The bridge goes straight to the soundboard—there is no offset. This does necessitate making the bass strings slightly shorter but it increases the length of the strings between the bridge and the hitchpin on the frame (or “plate”). This makes the transfer of energy from the strings to the soundboard more efficient and it has the effect of giving the bridge more mobility—it can more easily move in response to the lowest frequencies in the vibrating strings—and makes the bass sound more clear and articulate. It aids our perceptual pitch definition. ddf

When I tried them I did find the W114 to sound different (but great!) than the W121 and W131. Now I know why As to your longevity question... the consensus is that even entry level pianos today are better made than entry level pianos from before. And those old pianos last 40+ years before anything serious needs to be replaced.
