Need advice on buying a 46" upright for Grade 10 exam

Hi, Today the music store just confirmed me that due to the staircase of my townhouse any baby grand won't fit, not even a 52" upright! I'm really upset. The piano mover told me at most I can only buy a 46" upright. however, I plan to take the Grade 10 exam and even a diploma. Is a 46" upright good enough for such high grade? So now I've to stick to a 46" upright. What name brand have good action and response for a 46"? Do you have any advice and suggestions? I prefer European pianos and my budget is $11K to $12K and can be a bit higher. Thanks!

Most verticals are under 4'! A 46' piano will require a room with about an 8-story ceiling. I think I have only tuned in one room that size, a cathedral!
A 46" studio vertical with a full-sized action should be a decent minimum for a serious pianist. But you might want to get a second opinion from a piano mover.

Isn't it possible to move piano thorough the window right into your target room? You will need crane for it and it'll be more expensive, but if you are considering some piano related education...

In your price range, look at a Charles Walter. Not European, but it will do.

I suggest trying Bohemias. I had found a 46' one that was a dream to play and the sticker price (literally), was $12K.

Find out if you can bring in the piano through a window.

Buy a used piano, and you can afford much more.

Thank you for all of your advice! I thought I knew a lot of brands but in fact I was not.
I'm living in a townhouse so the townhouse estate won't let me remove the window for crane delivery. I'll go check all the brands listed above.
Thanks!

Am I dreaming? I made a post here yesterday suggesting looking at the Charles Walter 1500 with the Renner action. I check today and my post is gone. Did anyone else see that post? It was the third post on this thread.

Hi Rod,
I only saw DBD talking about Charles Walter, but really thanks for helping me out anyway. And good to know that it has Renner action!
Btw, do you have a website? I keep trying but it's not connected saying "The connection was reset" or "Problem loading page".

I do have a website and it's part of my tag line. I have no idea why it is not loading for you. Walters come with two choices of actions for the uprights. One is Renner the other is from another supplier from China.
I have no experience with the actions from China. Some dealers here may.
Still confused on what happened to my post.

I just noticed you are in Vancouver. I did not see that being part of your profile yesterday and noticed it after my last post here. When I answered your question regarding my web site.
