I finished Chopin Nocturne op. 27 no 1.
Have it memorized completely but still polishing some parts up.

The only trouble spots were the piu mosso and the following appassionato and sostenuto section, everything else was smooth sailing. I really enjoyed the end of the "B" theme when it becomes a Major key, the section marked "Stretto".

Anyway I was looking at some other pieces and was hoping someone could find ranking these pieces in order of difficulty. I know one of you guys must find doing something like this fun whistle

I could go through all of them with a score but being a student(second year college) I have other things on my plate so I was hoping someone could help me out and let me know a good place to start as well as the relative difficulty of pieces I enjoy so I can get a pretty good idea of when would be a good time to attempt.

Chopin Nocturne op 48 no 1
Chopin Nocturne op 62 no 2
Chopin Etude op 10 no 6
Chopin Etude op 10 no 9
Scriabin Prelude op 11 no 11
Scriabin Prelude op 11 no 15
Scriabin Prelude op 15 no 3(my favorite prelude)
Debussy Arabesque 1
Field Nocturne no 3
Field Nocturne no 4
Poulenc Novelette 1
Poulenc Novelette 3
Rachmaninoff Elegie op 3 no 1
Beethoven Piano Sonata no 17 "The Tempest" the first mvt in particular.

If there are ones you don't know then no problem just rank what you are familiar with no big deal thumb

I am also a second year in college, but I read through lots of music. From what you listed, I actually recommend playing a Mozart Sonata, maybe the F major? And then do the Rachmaninoff Elgie.

The thing is, it's actually not as easy as you think to rank music in difficulty like that. The biggest reason being that even if pieces are smaller scale than others, it ALWAYS stretches your abilities to play the absolute best you can. You can never really "max out" on mastery with a piece.

Although, I can say that the Beethoven Sonata and Chopin Etudes are really hard for virtuosic reasons. Probably the C Minor Nocturne, too. smile

Lol Then for simplicities sake, lets just try to rank them entirely based on technical difficulty. How hard/easy it is to hit all the right notes in time.

and no I'm not a music major I'm actually in the Medical program.

Pharmacy Technology.

To play the notes, Chopin etudes and Beethoven Sonata seem to be the hardest. All the others that I know of (and I am not intimately familiar with all of them) are probably comparable of difficulty, and your own personal strengths and weaknesses would be the main factor for what makes one piece harder than another.

But in short, Chopin etudes and Beethoven Sonata are probably the hardest to hit the right notes.

Scriabin would be slightly more unique though wink If op.15 no.3 is your favorite, go for it!

Like spending time here asking others for help on something you could be doing yourself at the present time. No one else can tell you how difficult any particular work may or may not be for you, especially since we know nothing about you or your abilities.

In my defense it doesn't take but 5 minutes to post and read through the post if even that.
