I am wondering if these are the new series after being purchased by Samick?

What are the differences and are they still made in Germany? Are they using the German parts?

I cannot afford them right now but really want to know more as Seiler has always been my dream piano.

Thanks!

Yes, there are differences. They are described pretty well on the piano buyer site (at least for the US market) as well as through using the google search toolbar on this site.

I did get to play two versions of the 186 grand back to back, and perceived some differences as a player, but I wasn't taking notes and can't remember exactly what they were.

These names Johannes and Eduard are not available for the market in North America.
The German Piano Factory is running and still using German components for pianos label with the name Seiler.

I seem to remember trying an "Ed. Seiler" 186 right next to a regular Seiler 186 at Hulbert Piano in Milwaukee a few months ago. Is that different than what you're talking about, Kurtmen?

I've more questions. In the Seiler series, there are:

# Primus Line
# Classic Line
# Trend Line
# Special Line

After reading the descriptions, I still can't tell the difference between these lines except the Special Line. Is the difference only related to the case?

I'm saving money to buy a Seiler piano after a few years. I'm wondering if any parts of the production have already been transferred to Indonesia as I was told by someone else recently (even though the website claims it's made in Germany).

Thanks for your information!

Regards,

StarryNight

I have seen Eduard Seiler uprights and Johannes Seiler grands, as well as Seiler grands and uprights. From what the salesperson told me, Seiler pianos (grand and upright) are made in Germany, Johannes Seiler made in Indonesia.

It appears that Samick has a different strategy for Seiler in different markets. In the U.S., there are the SE models and the ED models (ED not yet listed in Piano Buyer). All of the models listed in Fall 2011 Piano Buyer are the traditional German models. I don't know about other lines in other markets.

For Europe the easiest way is to visit Seiler's official website.

For Germany - one selects 'German' as the language below:

* Grands: the 'traditional line' - no Eduard Seilers - one Johannes Seiler (160)
* Uprights: the 'tradional line' - two Eduard Seilers Ritmo 116/122 - two Johannnes Seilers 118/122
Seiler Germany

For the rest of Europe - select 'English' as the language below:

* Grands: the 'traditional line' - one Eduard Seiler 186 - one Johannnes Seiler 160
* Uprights: the 'traditional line' - two Eduard Seilers 126/132 - two Johannes Seilers 118/122

That's it you got right; the regular Seiler and the Ed. Seiler.
All other names are not available in North America.

My understanding is that there will be 3 Seiler lines: One made completely in Germany; one assembled in Germany with the belly work done in Indonesia; and one made completely in Indonesia.

Current plans, I am told, use the same basic scale design in all three lines.

For the German market, the only difference between Seiler and Eduard Seiler is the chinese action in the Eduard Seiler, whereas the regular Seiler has a Renner action. The rest of both brands is completely built in Germany and aside from the action both pianos are identical.

The Johannes Seiler is completely built in Indonesia and the final check and prep work is done in Germany.

Gregor,

I suppose that you must be talking about Ed Seiler uprights for the German market, as Seiler's official website says, no ED Seilers are available.

As to the differences between the regular Seiler grands and the ED Seiler grands there must be more than merely a difference in action choice view the hughe price difference?

In France an ED Seiler 186 Cantus is listed € 16.990,- whereas a Seiler 186 Maestro is listed € 38.840,-!
