Hi, In my search for a grand I came upon a new Yamaha Grand piano of possible interest:
Yamaha GB 1K Georgian style MSRP: $1699.00 SMP: 1598.00 Price quoted: 9433.00
This is their best price after all the kicking, screaming, hair pulling and eye gouging. I guess I'm not a calm shopper. Anyone have any thoughts on this price??

Their price is very good.
However, why squander any part of your precious dollars on the furniture? (Georgian Style will up the price by well over $2,000--possibly close to $3,000.)
$9,433 is a hair under what you could get a new Yamaha U3 upright for. For significantly less than $9,433 you could get a new U1 upright. Even the U1 is a better instrument than the GB1, and when you're buying so little musical quality (the GB1K) but paying quite a bit of money it just seems a shame to spend any of it on furniture at the expense of the music unless your primary concern is to have a pretty "PSO" (piano-shaped object). OK--I admit there are far worse baby grands out there (we needn't say what country they come from and start a big fight), but still, you're talking about paying so much for so little music. Please at least PLAY a U3 and a U1 before making your purchase. The same dealer selling the GB1K will surely have a U1 and most probably a U3 as well.

Anyone have any thoughts on this price?? i think you're missing a zero to the left of your decimal point for msrp and smp. if 17k is the msrp, 40% off would be a very good price (10.2k) so yes, that would be a very very good deal.

IMo the GB1K isn't that bad. In terms of the instrument, I'd take the GB1k over a U1, and between the U3 I wouldn't know. The price is very good. Best of luck Agreed, the GB1 isn't "that" bad. (It's quite playable and far worse exists on the market.) It is, however, rated two steps below any U series Yammy upright by Fine. Also, I agree that at least some others would prefer a GB1 over a U1 if not a U3. Nonetheless, what can it hurt before writing out the check to play some similar-priced same-brand pianos just to see what that vague amount of money can buy? Before locking into my own recent Yamaha purchase, I played lots and lots of pianos, read stuff on this forum, asked questions, and found that over time, my decision about what to buy changed several times over. In the end, my initial deposit on a special order Yamaha was transfered to a completely different instrument. It's a big decision!
