Hi,
Are there any programs that allow you to hook up your digital piano to your computer and use the DP's (Yamaha P155) keyboard as input and produce a different sound in the program depending on your settings?
So basically, can I hook it up to my computer and use a program that will produce an electric guitar sound?
Thanks

Tons.
First of all, make sure you have a MIDI interface for your computer. You might get an external sound interface with MIDI or a MIDI-to-USB converter.
Then search the internet for classic keywords like VST, MIDI software, digital audio workstation, etc. There are free and paid versions of almost any instrument you would want.
Unfortunately in the digital audio world there are often many levels to software. The instrument is a plugin to a player, which is a plugin to some kind of digital audio software (also having plugins for reverb and stuff), which could be a plugin to other things, etc. Make sure you map out what all you will need to buy in order to get what you want working. I've found it rather unpleasant how many levels of hassle you have to go through just to be able to play and record music. But I was kind of hoping to just buy a software piano and have it work and record without having to get other software. Not generally the case.

As gvfarns said, there are tons. I use Native Instruments Komplete 8 but its not cheap. However their Kontakt player is free http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/producer/komplete-8-players/?page=2433and there's plenty of 3rd party addons that work with it. As to guitar sounds, there are some for Kontakt, but while they sound real enough to me, professional guitarists all say they can always spot one that's not real a mile away. I suppose at the end of the day, no matter how close you get to accurately creating a sample, it's the feel of the playing that's hard to replicate.

Thanks guys. I already have a midi to USB gadget, a cheap little thing so hopefully the quality isn't ruined too much.
