Does anyone know what the "LA" stands for in Casio's "LA Piano" tone, which is the 4th tone in the Casio AP-620, under the Grand Piano "Modern" setting/button?
[The official answer has been given in my other post, below.]* Extra note:

No, it just means that, like the rest of us, you're spending way too much time on this forum!
I always thought "L.A." referred to Los Angeles, meaning that it's supposed to sound like certain West Coast recordings. Don't know if I'm right, though.

James, You think that the "LA" stands for "Lower Alabama?" So, what kind of piano tone would that be? I thought it might mean "Los Angeles." (As voxpops mentioned, above.)

What it means is that its a sample based on the old Yamaha studio grand C7 in the Record Plant in Los Angeles and used on recordings by Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, Billy Joel, Rod Stewart, Boston .... the list goes on and on. It was used on so many recordings that it defined the "LA" sound of the mid 70's.

James,
You think that the "LA" stands for "Lower Alabama?"
Are you familiar with the expression 'ask a silly question...'? My response was a reference to this JB track. (listen from around 11 minutes in)

On DPs the L.A Piano is usually just a layer of grand piano with either Rhodes or occasionally a cheesy DX sound, it is never a unique sample. But as the Dr says, that is what they are trying (and always failing) to emulate. But I also think James is on to something...Lower Alabama. He just might be right...

It sure does sound cheesy - is there any possibility it could mean "Linear Arithmetic", as in the Linear Arithmetic synthesis used on the Roland D50?
Greg.

Seriously the only way to get that sound is to use a triple tracked C7 that has been abused for many years ... and processed with lots of tight reverb .. I don't know why they bother either.

According to this it looks like it could be a blend of the famous DX 7 FM piano and an acoustic piano sound. (just as ESSBrace said). Extract: 11. E-Piano 1: THE MOST FAMOUS PATCH OF THE '80s!!!!!!! Used by EVERYBODY, the fabled INT11 preset has become a standard sound (aka "FM piano" in all modern workstations, of all brands. It was manipulated in many ways, but the typical add-on was a wide chorus, to achieve that polished, professional sound. Mixed with a regular piano sound, it became the "L.A. piano", a standard for mid-80s ballads. Greg.

[ANSWER TO QUESTION]*
I just did receive the official reply (directly from Casio) on this question, and, here it is:
"Los Angeles. It is a very typical acoustic piano/electric piano combination made popular by LA based recording studios."
Thanks for everyone's input, above.
