I'm looking to sell (locally) our Sohmer upright that we've had for several years. The serial is 205993#34E. It is in decent shape, but needs a tuning. I have no idea if this is a decent piano or how much it's worth. Can anyone offer some advice?
Thanks, Tim

We need much more information and a couple of pictures please. Facts we will need to know: Size of the piano as measured from the floor to the top of the piano, age of the piano, last time it was tuned, general condition of the cabinet. Pics of the inside of the piano will be helpful too. Even at that, we can only give you an opinion.

It is a 34" console. That model is nothing special.

Pianolance,
Attached should be some pictures. It is 34". It was given to me a few years ago, so I'm really uncertain as to the age. The keys all work, with no sticking. My daughter has put her time into the french horn, so it hasn't been tuned in over a year. I'm just have no idea if it is worth $500 or $5,000. So I'm looking for some guidance on where to price.

More like $500, maybe up to $1000, although I think that would be pushing it.

It looks like a nice enough little piano but I agree with DBD, it is much closer to 500 than 5000. On something like that, the market will determine its value. Put it on a local bulletin board like Craigslist or as a local music shop if they would take it in on consignment. If your local music store takes it in, typically they will give you half of what they sell it for, but with a showroom and retail location, they can get a better price than you could, but still probably not twice as much. Sohmer is considered a good quality brand but it is not very well known. Best of luck with it. If you tune it before you sell it it should be easier to sell. If it sounds like a real honky tonk piano it will be next to impossible to sell.
