David: The new link that you gave isn't the best one that Damon gave -- it still requires an extra step or two.
I think you want this one.

I thought the salsa thing was a joke about "fail to identify", but if so, it's being carrying further than I'd expect.

I don't hear anything remotely Latin American about it. Could just as easily be Balkan or Central Asian or .....

No surprise! As we've seen quite a bit before, we have different ears. smile

I thought you were joking Mark, and i just wasnt understandng the joke, being a Yorkshireman.
However, it would appear that you are serious and are hearing salsa.
may I ask for proof? I would except any salsa that sounds remotely like this even just three consecutive notes in the same rythym.

Or a photo of your ears to proove they exist in this universe.

FYI, this doesn't sound even remotely Latin to me. One of the hallmarks of Latin music is the use of a clave rhythm, which doesn't appear in any form whatsoever in the excerpt given.

It does sound Klezmer/Romanian/Hungarian Gypsy to me:

Oh, and in that it's Gypsy inspired, it *does* have a bit of a Spanish flair to it, but most of what we think of as latin (Salsa, Bossa Nova, etc.) has a lot of Afro-Cuban rhythmic material in it.

It's a piano riff on a Cuban salsa thing. grin

It's strange. I'm going with the eastern Europe roots rather than the Cuban. It's also peculiar that what was claimed to be midi has hand claps and crowd noises. It seems more like a piano roll that a small group of people were enjoying. I think a transcription will show it to be unplayable by a single player.

Indeed Damon, if you listen very carefully, there is even a sound that sounds like a swanny whistle, not too far in, if this is not Klezmer, I will eat Marks ears. Dont worry though, it is apparent he doesn't actually need them.

Out of curiosity, my DAW would not accept the midi file itself, citing "corrupted" but it did open with windows media player.

Yes , seriously it will bug me till I know what the piece is called, I like to know definitive answers to such musical mysteries.

There is a good reason for that. It isn't a midi file despite the extension. You would think most modern software would be to figure that out. (windows media player did)

Do you know what typ of file it actually is Damon? and if it is possible to change the extension?

I do this with my camcorder file extensions to make them mpg, it allways throws a warning up but works just fine.

No,it has to be me eating your ears if it isnt Klezma.
The reasoning is as follows:
I will need to imbibe the "pseudo salsa" into my system, that your ears are hearing.
In the same way as ancient warriors ate the ones they had defeated in battle to become imbued with their strength.
Its an ancient tradition amongst the descendents of the britains that refused to become "Romanised" or "latinised" after the Roman invasion.
Some say we still paint ourselves with woad, but this is just the natural palour of our skin due to the cold.

Well, since we're now talking about Romans and Mark_C, perhaps he could just do as his Shakespearean namesake requested, and lend you his ears! smile

Oh no, Bruce! You have just mentioned "shakespeare" which will be a cue for the Disneyesque/Hollywood historians to say "It was the Earl of Oxford who wrote everything really" and then,
to proffer micky mouse sized ears for general consumption.

Edited to add: I have just been reliably informed that the wearing of Micky mouse ears is a sign of the "illuminati"

That's what I did when I heard the people noise, I changed the extension to mp3. That is the only difference between the two files I re-uploaded.

Sure -- or something the player had made up, and, in the nature of many great composers as well as those who just never really play the notes the way they're trying ha ....it comes out a little different every time.

But the question still is, what style is it in?

And of course we already have the answer to that. grin

We can't, because David11 didn't tell us. He actually stated that it "wont help because it's in Hebrew"
I believe this was remiss of him. He failed to take into account that there are millions of folk who can speak, read and write in Hebrew.

You should ask him sleepy, you should say something like this: "Dear David11, I really want to find out what this is for you (dont say I need to know as well, just in case he doesnt like me) please could you give me the link to the hebrew website"

You could also mention that you are not being argumentative about folk not understanding Hebrew, and even explain that you can understand it. (Dont say you can if you actually cant though, because you will get found out)

Dont mention at this early juncture anything about salsa, its probably best not to cloud the issue.

You could finish off with something that will make David!! feel happy like this : "I will be really gratefull David11, and would just like to say in appreciation, that I am a huge fan of yours and have enjoyed reading all of you posts, and look forward to meeting you in the future, when I will buy us lunch"

If you find out anything from the website do let me know first?
I am the most curious out of everybody and will dance the lambada in appreciation, before gloating to Mark that I was correct about the Klezmer, or maybe dance the lambada whilst gloating, not sure yet.

And also let me say -- which will surely sound like self-serving pre-emptive spin, and I can't swear it isn't.... ha .....Often with things like this, the person doesn't exactly know and can't say what it is that he was doing, and might even say 'it's nothing, it's just some stuff that I riffed out.' Which would leave it to us to decide what it takes after.

And of course, as has been said, we already have that answer. grin

Here's a thought. You could combine the mp3 with a picture using Windows movie maker, then upload it to your Youtube account. With any luck it will get flagged for copyright violation and you could pester Youtube for the claimant's email and ask him what it is.
