Hi. I'm just choosing a recital song to play for a June Recital. I've got plenty of time to learn it. But I lost a great deal of my sheet music to a flood So, I'm looking for ideas for books that contain great recital pieces, around a level 8, early advanced. I have Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca that I've been playing through. I'd be interested in classical and non-classical collections. What are your favorite recital books or particular songs? Thanks for your ideas! Carolyn

Thanks for your ideas! Carolyn Oh *dear*. This is as puzzling as those repetitive questions about ranking pieces by difficulty - or another recent bizarre question about about whether you need to be at a 'certain level' to play one of Chopin's etudes because it's believed to be purely 'instructional'! Carolyn: Though your sheet music was lost to a flood, I'm surprised that your teaching experience and academic background wouldn't give you answers - or guide you to answers - to your own questions. Or you could always search online for 'piano recital album' or 'piano favorite recital pieces', for example, or something similar. Best wishes - and by the way (and don't take it the wrong way), I hope you don't call piano pieces 'songs' with your students. Unless you're really referring to a piano arrangement of a pop song, it muddles the distinction between vocal music and instrumental music - and can cause confusion and misunderstandings.

I've been learning Burgmuller Op. 109 - the pieces are wonderful, and a set of 3 or 4 would be perfect for a recital. (Plus, it's good to have them in your teaching repertoire. They're more difficult than the Op. 100 pieces, but every bit as fun!)

Kreisler-
Thanks so much for that great idea. I should definitely get a new copy of those etudes.

Is Burgmueller Op. 109 Level 8 - early advanced, then? I did not know that. Good job there are pedagogues around here.

There isn't any Burgmuller on the official Achievement Program list right now, but I think it fits reasonably well. There's a range - some of the pieces are a notch more or less difficult, but I think 8 is a good rough estimate.
