Folks After a long time (since June) and alot of lurking around these posts, I picked up my CA63 last Saturday. Albeit a used one, it is immaculate and works just fine. Each of us has a reason for wanting (lusting?) for what we want or need, mine was to appease my pangs of guilt and resurrect a fifty year hiatus from piano lessons taught to me in my misspent youth by a Catholic Nun. So patient she was and such a nice console she had compared to the depression era upright I had at home in the 50's. My pilgrimage started last June as I watched "Note by Note: The Making of Steinway L1037". Went to the local Steinway Dealer, heard one and I was hooked. But ... After chasing my tail for a while, I crossed over to the Dark Side of Digital Pianos. Went to the local Guitar Center and saw a Yamaha Arius 181. That was the beginning. Over time I learned of Kawai and Roland (and Casio Moog etc etc etc) First on my list, within budget, I wanted a digital piano so it could be moved about and did not need constant maintenance. Then, it had to feel good and sound good. I came to add a third requirement and that was look good as well. Hundreds of this or drumbeats that did not mean as much as a good sounding piano tone and touch. It also had to be current manufacture. My sister has played piano professionally for thirty years and helped me choose between Roland, Yamaha and Kawai. We spent time together at the stores to see which one she preferred. Touch, sound, it came down to the Kawai CA63 and CA93. And with the electronics to one side and off the keyboard? Great! Now to settle down, resurrect some degree of discipline and practice. One note at a time. One note after the other. Day after day ... For -all- of your information and opinions, thanks ... Jon ... Woodbury Mn

Ciao Jon! Nice story, raising soft feeling of sweet nostalgia, something related to people and images of our past which we cannot forget, on the contrary we sometimes love to recall... It's nice to share it with us (I too know this quite well). It's also very positive the drive we can get from the past to (re-)start from there and set new goals.I don't know how advanced you were with your piano learning , but it doesn't really matter, your present decision will be definitely rewarding in any case.I strongly believe that.Congratulations for your nice DP and for your determination, enjoy it ! Very Nice Jon. Good to see it's getting play, and glad you find it to be in immaculate condition. Hop over to the CA63/CA93 Custom Settings thread!
Now I really should update my signature line...
:-)

+ 0ne to all who have gone to the "dark side" of going digital, it's a far better place to be than to be without. Good playing on a great instrument!

Steve,
I printed the Custom Settings Pdf last summer and fall then made a spreadsheet so I could compare the nuances. And have loaded the STEINWAY GRAND DEVOTION R2.1 with a couple small changes as the default on Power On.
Have also picked up a used Jansen Bench for $45 which I will recover and repad. Mfg'd in '92 and needs some TLC. The frame/legs are in great shape as is the metal framework.
Sat down with my wife who has never touched a piano and gave her some basics. She too, may find it a good pasttime.
Found a website with Five Levels of free music for Students. Was pretty excited when I could play Itsy Bitsy Spider with both hands.

For those who found this thread.
The piano is in front of a window, which does not get direct sunlight.
The lamp is from the fifties. As am I ... :-O
