Layering piano sounds

I am interested in layering the sound of my Kawai CA63 with the sound of one of my software piano sounds.
I have 2 Yamaha HS80M Powered monitors with two input jacks on each. One of the inputs is an XLR Balanced connector and the other is a standard 1/4" plug.
I now have the lineout from my DP going into the 1/4" plug.
When I use software piano sounds, I plug that into the XLR jack.
I cannot have them both plugged in at the same time because then I get nothing.
I am looking for suggestions as to how to get both sounds into those monitors.
Thanks.

You can use a mixer to combine the sounds from two or more sources. Many such mixers can accept both XLR and 1/4" connections. So ... feed the two sound sources to the mixer inputs, and feed the mixer output to the monitors.

Standard 1/4" plugs from the software piano output into the CA63 L/H Line In jacks should work. At least it does on my Casio PX-300

Most keyboards have a line in that can mix the two together without the need of an external mixer.

Rune, Joe ... The OP wants to play through external speakers, not the internal ones. Yes, the keyboard line inputs will accept inputs from an external source. But there's no opportunity to adjust the mix of internally-generated sounds vs. the aux-in sounds.

I just happened to notice that my Behringer UCA202 external sound device has 2 stereo inputs which I was able to hook my DP into. It doesn't seem to have quite the volume of hooking directly into the powered monitors but adequate for my purposes. I think I am good for the moment.

Rune, Joe ... The OP wants to play through external speakers, not the internal ones. Yes, the keyboard line inputs will accept inputs from an external source. But those sounds will appear only on the internal speakers, and not on the piano's line outputs. Wrong!! at least with Yahama. It also appears at the line out of the keyboard. I did it for years with a Yamaha keyboard and a sound module connected to the line in of the KB and line out of KB connected to the sound system.

Oh BTW it works with my Casio Privia too, internal speakers turned off and line out of the Casio connected to powered monitors.

DMD-I have an MP 10 which I believe has the same ins & outs as your CA 63--I run the outs of my Audio Interface into the Line ins on the MP10-there you can adjust the amount of volume you want from the software piano using the line in volume slider-and the main output volume slider to adjust the overall output of both internal & software piano going to your monitors-I also have the Yamaha HS80m's
Great Day

Jack:
Yes, that does work.
However, the bad news is that I got a slight hum in my monitors using that scenario.
I may give it another try because my first attempt did not end up utilizing the XLR input on my monitors. That might make a difference.

Don on my MP10 in the back I have a ground lift switch if you have that turn it on--also try lifting the ground(3 prong to 2) on the CA63 plug if you don't have the switch---

Well, I swapped some wires around and now I have it set up so that the LINE OUTPUT to my monitors utilizes the XLR jack and that is much better. I hardly notice anything at all now. I will let this settle for a while and see how it goes. I may end up getting myself a more sophisticated (as in more expensive) audio interface instead of the Behringer UCA202 and that might make some difference.
Do you have any recommendation ?

DON-I have the Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 6 interface and the sound with it's Cirrus D/A converters is wonderful-also it's layout & functionality are great. Got it from B&H Photo for $199.00 while everyone else wanted $299...

Jack:
I will keep that in mind if I go that route.
Right now, my sound is pretty good.
Thanks for you help.

Just in case there are others considering doing this layering thing ...
I have experimented with layering each of the software piano sounds that you see at the bottom of this post along with the CONCERT GRAND sound on my CA63 and the results have been absolutely great. Now, I have any number of different sounds I can create and am very satisfied with my sound now. I can now generate what I consider a very nice clear tone which sounds like a real piano, at least like what my concept of the perfect real piano would sound like. I could not be happier with it.
