Its so odd what folk do for attention on youtube though becca? I only posted it, because its so very tame, and knew no one in their right mind would get offended!!!

Oh, Mrs R found something that may make you laugh up there in the frozen wilderness, and to let you know we are thinking about you and hoping the weather improves quickly so you can get out and ride your bikes!!

Its not quite as bad as this here!!!
(the cat just happened to allready be in the piccy AimeeO , we didnt put it there!)

Yes, not the one i was looking for, but a good example of an alternative to lowering the kwak 900?

Instead of lowering the bike, it may be cheaper to raise yourself.

But quite dodgy as well......

I too am happy with my ww11 para boots, they are great for my needs! stomping through the welsh countryside in all weathers, through streams, over hills etc.
Mrs R was a punkette in the eighties, and as such did wear six inch heels..on a daily basis!
( she also considered them a self defense item should anyone have given her grief!)

Now we both have para boots.

And a haggis that we hunted today, we trapped it in a supermarket hiding on a shelf.

Well done hunting down that Greater Crested Haggis, Rossy. Now remember, some nice foil wrap and no fierce boiling. And when it lands on the plate, make it feel at home with a good accompaniment of mashed root veg.

I'm just back from Handel House, where Robert Woolley was playing a selection of Handel and English harpsichordists. His encore was Froberger's Lament on the Death of Ferdinand III, played as a tribute to Gustav Leonhardt, who died last month in Amsterdam at the age of 83. Leonhardt was one of the handful of musicians who led the charge on the revival of the harpsichord in the 20thC. He was giving public performances right up until the time of his death.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustav_Leonhardt

Obits in the New York Times, Guardian, Gramaphone etc.

I recently bought his Froberger disc, which is fantastic.

Here's Blandine Verlet playing the Froberger Lament:

Griff, if I could eat hordes of chocolate I still wouldn't like V-day although the chocolate gifts might make me overlook it! whistle

I'm leaning the simplified, short version of this..

Well for what its worth, I don't particularly like Valentines day either. Although it does give me a chance to post some interesting things on this thread that would otherwise seem to come right out of the blue.

Here is a good one:

A Caution for Wayne: before you watch this one, you may want to sit down.

Twins!

Hi Rostosky and friends of Rostosky--especially Wayne,

Since it does not seem to be the custom of the piano bars to dedicate the pieces posted there, I thought this would be a good place to tell Wayne and those familiar with his piano trials and tribulations that the piece I just posted in the February Bar, Falling in Love Again, was inspired by him and his love for Lady G and was chosen with him in mind.

Wayne, I don't know you well but somehow your haunted piano has become a metaphor for my haunted heart. As your grandmother's inheritance to you it resonates with my late father's musical creative legacy for me. The song (the link for which you can find in the February Piano Bar thread) was made famous by someone who many would consider the Lady Gaga of her generation and was performed in a similar context of Lady G's performances in the decadent Berlin of the 1930's in the classic film Blue Angel, which introduced her to American audiences.

Here she is singing it in the film :

In my performance video the part of the song everyone knows is my own arrangement but the long intro is from the original 1930’s sheet music, the lyrics to which were not the same as those used in the film (the sheet music’s were much more sentimental). I have tendonitis so I couldn’t practice it as much as I would have liked and stumbled on the ending, but It was so perfect for Valentines Day that I couldn’t resist sharing it. Happy Valentines Day!

Here are the original lyrics:

I’m much too sentimental
My heart is never free
Perhaps it’s accidental
That Love should come to me
Some little thing within me
Protects me for a while
Till someone comes to win me
With only a smile

Falling in love again
Never wanted to
What am I to do?
Can't help it

Love's always been my game
Play it as I may
I was born that way
Can't help it

Men flock around me
Like moths around a flame
And if their wings burn
I know I'm not to blame

I'm falling in love Again
Never Wanted to
What Am I to Do
Can't help it

Music that explodes my mortal soul, and then allows it to envelop the universe.

Plus, an intriguing oriental.

My tribute to M. Dietrich: as with all great art, this has pulled the marrow from my spine.

Does the spine contain marrow?

Love the intriguing oriental man, hawgdriver, and those harpy twins are quite something, PPP! Is the backdrop somewhere in Detroit, or are such things to be seen elsewhere now, I wonder...

I'd be interested in some weather reports from Becca and Griffin...

We're back up to around +12 degrees Celcius right now, which is almost a heatwave. The last of the snow disappeared this morning.

Excellent Starr Keys, and somemore of the great Marlena, here you can have a choice as Marlena sang this in three different languages,

The first three verses were written by the great Peter seeger, who himself took it from a Cossack folk song "Tovchu, tovchu mak"
and probably used a pre-existing melody. Anyways, that was in 1955.

In 1962 Marlena sang it at a UNICEF do and in French as;
"Qui peut dire où vont les fleurs?"

here she is in 1963 singing it in English...
"where have all the flowers gone?"

And of course she sang it in German as well, and was the first person to use German publicly in Isreal after WW11...

"Sag' mir, wo die Blumen sind?"

Good morning all.

Interesting pieces to listen to this morning! I really like the Peter Murphy and the twin Harp ladies!

Um it's -8c (17f) here. We still have snow but it's been an unusually warm winter here. Normally we would have snow until April/May and sometimes even into June. I doubt we will have snow into April at this point. Nice change for us!

Good morning. It is outrageously warm in Minneapolis. Right now it's -5c here, and it's supposed to go up to +5c. Becca, don't you just get a little tired of having to translate Celsius temps for your neighbors in the good ole U.S.A.? I would be annoyed! We've had very little snow cover all winter. It's now completely melted. It's been pleasant. However, we could pay for it later with drought conditions. I must admit, however, it's helping keep down our home heating costs!

Yes it's annoying. We also have to translate kilometers to miles, cm to inches, litres to gallons etc... It just means double the math work for anyone on the Metric system.. *sigh* and it was supposed to make it easier on us! Ha!

Yeah mild winter=drought and bad fire season... We pay for it no matter what.

Good morning again folks. Your usually good natured Grif is not in the greatest mood right now. Today I have to deal with the American "health care" system for a fairly simple matter. cursing ! Before I get too upset and OT, I'll post. Here's Sugar Ray.

If only we could convince my countryman to join the rest of the world and adapt the metric system. Last time this was tried was nearly 30 years ago. The reactions were ridiculous. You would have thought changing to the metric system would have taken our precious bodily fluids to be delivered to Lucifer!

Oh boy, I've barely gotten started today. Well on to more "fun" things like our American "health care" system. Pardon me while I go sharpen my teeth for my chat with those lovely health insurance people!

Course its Ok ROB, !! thanks, the more the merrier, and the bigger and better diversity of music to share.

Well, today has seen a lot of activity, and its still early...

What with two lady playing lady gaga on harp (PPP's most excellent twins, pant) and starr keys dedicating the song she played to Wayne, we might even see Wayne coaxed out of his hidey hole..

I am currently drawing a picture of Waynes hiding place and may well post it if he doesnt appear soonish.lol
