I think we techs have all seen our share of "rebuilt" actions where clients have paid a lot of money and have ended up with pianos that had new action parts, but which were no better off (and often worse), performance wise, than original. You know, the actions with the drop screws screwed all the way down so that they just about fall out of their holes, or are screwed all the way up so that the scrape the bottom of the pinblock, etc. I think this is what BDB was referring to before the debate took off. There is still a lot of this going on out there.
But there is also a lot of educated action re-building going on. Many technicians are willing to learn no matter how many years of experience they have accumulated. They understand that there are always new things to learn in this field. As the expertise level of those techs grows, we continue to see more and more competent and real improvements made to actions which were originally marginally playable.
I think the emphasis is on "trained, educated and experienced".

Presumably the client tried the piano before buying it, did not like it, and bought it anyway, then. Then somehow you knew what the client wanted.

I'm 25, BDB. So, what? How old do I have to be to have a valid opinion? Opinions are always valid. Whether they are worth being taken seriously by anyone else depends on the opinion, not on the age of the person who has it. Some people's never are. Hm. Well, seeing as how I spent today and yesterday servicing pianos that are worth less than a Stanwood Touch Design modification, I'll just chalk this up to you having a misunderstanding and move on
