Maybe it's the MP3 bit rate because I just submitted sucessufully the same file with a smallest bit rate.
Anyway, thanks for your support! thumb

PS: If the limit is 10mb, please correct the info in the upload page.

Carlos, I think the limit got moved down in the transition to the new servers, which is why it was never an issue in the past. Sam's looking into it, and I think we're going to try to raise it back up for future recitals. But for this recital, if any of you haven't submitted yet and/or experience trouble in uploading your piece, check the size of your file.

And you don't need to re-upload your info, btw. I was able to 'undelete' your original submission and it's all still there. smile

Unfortunately I cannot contribute to the recital this time. I just flew in to JFK on an urgent business. There is a piano in the company building but I don't think I can find any time to go near it. Next time.

Sorry - I went with the Nocturne.. smile
The Beethoven, despite being probably the best played of the 3 choices was possibly the worst recorded (Too much dynamic contrast for the technology).

The worst bit about the recording is the D90's fantastic 'auto-leveling' microphone, which does a great job of ensuring any dynamics I play are destroyed in the mix! (Just listen to the relative volume of the hissy noise and tone quality as it boosts my 'piano's and fades my 'forte's - its weird and quite unsettling to have all my nuances and feeling eaten up by a dumb piece of technology!)

ETA: Not really fair - as a CAMERA the D90 is awesome... but as a 'multifuncton device' it kinda sucks!

I wasn't going to submit mine as it wasn't quite up to speed, but last weekend I thought 3 months is enough working on a piece like this so got mine in. Today I started on my next piece, yey!

90 more minutes!!! eek

I had a marathon session this morning with the Zoom and came up with a better recording, so I dropped down to near the bottom. And I discovered a cool feature in YouTube: I accidentally uploaded the wrong video to YouTube, one that didn't have the beginning and end edited out where I'm fiddling with the zoom and setting the recording levels. I was trying to figure out how to delete it from my YouTube channel so I could upload the right file, when I discovered that YouTube lets you trim your videos even after you've uploaded them. Pretty neat!

...except I've just checked all the files, and Starr Keys's recording did not upload properly. Starr Keys, I got a warning that your file was corrupt, and it was showing as 0 kb. If you can fix it in the next five minutes we can include you, but I need to start processing the files promptly at 9. frown

p.s. the last two times we got that error, it was because the file was too large.

Okay, I was able to save Starr Keys's submission. I ripped the mp3 off the YouTube video and uploaded it. *Phew*

Starr Keys, you owe me an extra half hour of sleep. wink

Arrggghhh... Denali, your file caused an error. The software said it was not in mp3 format and refused to run. I wasn't able to figure out what it didn't like about it and had to delete your submission. I'm sorry!! frown

Okay, contrary to appearances, we *will* have a recital tonight. The online streaming player isn't working, and I had to drop Denali's submission, but everything else is running the way it's supposed to be. I'm making the zip files now so hopefully it will all be up in *gulp* a couple of hours.

Hmmm, maybe the deadline should be 6 or 7pm in the future, for your sake!

Actually, there's still a few more kinks. The zip files won't upload; apparently Frank's guy didn't set all the permissions we needed. And the direct links in the automated program are still set to go to LaValse's server. So I have to go through and fix them all by hand.

So, no streaming player tonight, and probably no zip files; we'll get that all sorted out as soon as we can. But I'll have the individual entries done before I go to sleep and finish up everything else tomorrow. thumb

Denali... if you see this, check your PM's. (Click on "My stuff" at top of page, then "messages".) If you can ship me your mp3 file tonight, I can try to figure out what was going on and then add it to the last zip file, since we're having trouble getting the new servers to accept our uploads. frown

Monica - let me join in the voices of appreciation for all your hard work. It is a pity you had to struggle with so many technical difficulties - you are a real champ to have pulled it all together for us - overcoming all the hurdles.

THANKS!!!!!

(I have to say that there is a plus side (for me) with the online streaming not working .... I have never watched the videos before, I've just listened - I have to say there is an extra element of pleasure to watching and listening that I had not fully appreciated before.

Great job Monica, Sam et al. I was pretty sure I had mentioned to Ken that all the links need changing from me to them but maybe not... there was a lot of emails and PMs flying about.

I too am enjoying reading the piece descriptions and watching the vids rather than letting the audio roll. Yes it's more effort but insignificant given the effort that went into each submission.

Maybe we should always delay the streaming player until +N days after the recital is published....
