Check out this clip of Anderson and Roe performing their own arrangement of Schubert’s Erlkonig at the Steinway factory. In my next life, I will play like that! Video is wild and scary.

Too bizarre for me. I'd guess that people who like vampire movies would appreciate it.

Woah! My students just studied Franz Schubert last week (with the Clavier handout I copied for them). I'm afraid this might be way to scary for most of them!

I loved it though!

Loved it! This is the first time I've watched and not listened. I had no idea half of the duo was female and Asian!

One piano moving around was enough (at least it was on a ship in a storm).

Boring video, stick to the music!

I thought it was very creative. How often do we feel consumed by our passion for music/instrument? Not too mention how amazing they played.

The girl falls down and rolls around looking helpless. The girl gets eaten leaving the stronger male to soldier on.

Cliché lately?

Nice piano work. Meh video.

I just saw them in concert last month - great music, and great fun. This video was a riot smile

I noticed the sexism in it as well. Glad you noticed too, Tararex.

Anderson is from Minneapolis. Read more info here.; Roe is of Korean ancestry - grew up in Chicago. I had found a rather complete bio at one time, but cannot locate it now. Her official bio is rather incomplete. For the life of me, I cannot remember her Chicago teacher, but he passed away recently - and was world famous as a teacher (which is why it bugs me that I cannot recall his name). The Piazzolla: Libertango is extraordinary. It's on youtube.

Now, why I couldn't think of Emilio del Rosario, her Chicago teacher, is beyond me. One fine teacher. We should all be so fortunate and skilled in our teaching.

I thought they both got swallowed?! Idk, maybe I missed something....
I do know the Erl-King(poem) is about a supernatural being killing a child.

Hmm.The video is um, ...bizarre, but I love the arrangement! So, the piano itself is the Erlking, I guess?

I remember studying the piece in one of our music history courses in college... and getting goosebumps listening to it (and reading the text). yeeeesh. eek

Here is more info on Der Erlkoenig... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_Erlk%C3%B6nig#The_Franz_Schubert_composition

What a hoot!

But if it's chilling you're after, I don't think you can beat the original. And no-one does it better than Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Gerald Moore:

Priceless! laugh

(I had been going to link that myself after Dietrich F-D, but I didn't have time. Look for his Beethoven sonata and his take-off of Peter Pears too, if you haven't already seen them!)
