My birthday is just around the corner, and so, my parents decided to get me a piano since they will be going on sale at Costco soon. Question is, which one should I get? A Casio Celviano AP-220 or Casio Privia PX-735(not 730)? The AP-220 is more expensive by $150, question is, what's the difference? I've compared their contents online, and both have the exact same qualities and features. Why is Celviano so much more expensive then Privia? If you've heard both of these pianos I would like to know which one of the two produce the richer, more realistic 'grand piano' sound. I am not really concerned about anything else, just the sound quality.

Thank-you so much for your time! smile

The cabinet on the AP-220 is a little larger and it includes a bench that the PX-735 does not have. Also, the PX-735 is not sold in the U.S., so it's hard for me to comment.

I'm pretty sure the 730 and 735 are roughly the same. So between the 730 and 220, do you think there's a difference in sound quality?

Happy Birthday (in advance) MissNikkii! I tested AP-220 a few months ago in a piano shop. Recently, I purchased Privia PX-135. I also have the detailed catalog for all the models of Casio DPs. I can assure you that in key-action and 'grand piano' sound all the Privia DPs and AP-220 are exactly same. The higher models of Celviano may be better. As mentioned by PianoWorksATL, just because of the large wooden cabinet, included pedal system and piano-bench AP-220 is more expensive than PX-130,330,730. You can also have a look at the catalog which is available in Casio's website.

AP-220 is the PX-130 with cabinet is it not? That means no ivory simulated key tops.

When it comes to sound and touch, I am under the impression that it's the same across the entire Casio line. The only differences between models are the cabinet/stand, number of sounds available, and key top treatment. edit: I think they also differ in outputs (LINE OUT) and speaker size with higher models having more of everything.

I personally don't like the Casio sound but they do provide a good value package. AP-420 (PX-330?) goes on sale at Costco (Canada) from time to time for around $800 every now and then which seems like a good deal.

I'm assuming you're in Canada because the PX-735 isn't listed on the US Costco site.
