I bought an Ampico reproducing baby grand in the late '70's when my kids were very young to inspire them to learn to play piano & allow us to enjoy actual instrumental music rather than just recordings heard through speakers/earphones. After purchasing rolls for holidays & original Gershwin, Rachmaninoff, and other piano rolls, the mechanism finally wore out in the early '90s. Finally, In early 2010 I searched the web and learned of the LX system. I decided to send Wayne Stenke an email telling him of my piano & interest in the LX in order to seek his advice. To my shock and amazement, he recommended that because I had an art-carved Knabe-Ampico I should restore the Ampico rather than put the LX in because of its relatively rare status! For all those out there who think LX posts are fakes by people interested in pushing LXs, just consider this for a moment...

Well, Wayne's advice froze me for a couple of years as I kept going back & forth on what to do. Finally in November 2011 I decided I would get much more use from the electronically driven mechanical musical instrument than relying on my beloved paper rolls. The restored Knabe (with Ampco safely crated for long term storage) was brought back to my house last week, and the experience is almost indescribable. I came home from work tonight & have one of my jazz piano heroes, Oscar Peterson, playing for me as I write this.  I go to the Village Vanguard when in NYC to listen to great jazz pianists, and truly this is as close to that music as anyone can ever achieve at home; it is beyond incredible!  The LX's extraordinary ability to reproduce great artistic expression/performance is 'jaw-dropping'. When my friends told me that spending $8k on a player to be installed in my piano was crazy, I thought, "Wait 'til they hear it." Well, I now know which non-classical music I will play for them first. And then there's Rachmaninoff playing for me whenever I want; who could ask for more?!

I want everyone who is on pianoworld to know what they're missing by not having the greatest artists playing on their Piano. btw: Because the LX plays any reproducer's format and Midi, my friend is recording files of my favorite tunes for me to listen to...the LX is NOT just about listening to old recordings from the 20's.

We all owe a big thanks to Wayne Stenke for applying his lifetime of knowledge to creating a consumer version of the ultimate re-performance piano mechanism for 'the rest of us'!

Bob...well, what can I say...let me be the first one to respond here...welcome to the Club!

I experienced the thrill of the LX back in 2007, when I first heard the very first LX in my newly rebuilt 1925 M&H RBB! I said it then, as I do now, it's an incredible machine!

Oscar Peterson, Rachmininoff, Art Tatum, Glenn Gould, with more to come, and not to mention the modern recordings!
