I just picked up my copy of Clavier Companion and opened it to an article titled Beginnings and endings, by one Peter Kristian Mose. A light bulb went off in my very slow brain, hey, don't we have a Peter K. Mose who's been contributing on the forum of late? I wonder if he could be one and the same, especially as they are both from Canada. Now you smart folks probably already knew this but I'm often slow to connect the dots.

If any of you are interested, this is an essay describing my year teaching one-on-one piano to a lovely fellow in his late 70s who had rather severe dementia. It proved some of the most rewarding and most challenging teaching I have ever done. I included the eulogy I delivered when my student passed away.

Music can indeed penetrate to deep, word-free levels of the intellect, and we are privileged to connect with it on a daily basis.

Peter and John (the names of two of my brothers). Your article and eulogy really resonated with me. My own father had Alzheimers and I have always been fascinated with music and the unusual mind.

I got my issue today, and I just wanted to tell you how wonderful it was!

As much as I love the immediacy and quick answers a forum such as PW offers, there's something very concrete and permanent with printed journals. I began my subscription(s) back in 1983 after seeing a colleague's back issues. The nearly 20 years worth of informative, in-depth articles are at least worthy of a master's in pedagogy! A second master's in music history, and a third master's in theory!

The biggest problems I hear from colleagues are

1) I don't have enough time to read them (translation - I can't be bothered to re-prioritize my life).

2) So much of each journal is of no interest to me (translation - I don't want to go outside my comfort zone).

These aren't problems, of course, but excuses. The more of us who subscribe, the more they can compile and publish. Thank you to all who have decided to subscribe.
