Hello,

After much research and trying out some different digital pianos, I'm settled on the CN43, though I have a few questions.

Amongst various reasons for choosing the 43 over the 33, a principle one is that the it can supposedly play directly from the USB- my expectation being it will help me to learn to play tunes by being able to play alongside with a piece. I was talking to a Yamaha rep previously and when I asked about USB functionality in general, he said most people play with a laptop sitting on top of their DP- ... does anyone do this?

Being able to read and write mp3 and midi formats directly seems useful, so I can hear myself afterwards to troubleshoot bad areas and so on. Also, an area of work I do sometimes lets me make graphics react to music and vice-versa (software using midi formats), which is why I specfically want this capability.

So I was wondering just how much people utilise the 43's usb and direct reading/writing of mp3's etc? For 33 owners, if you do record yourself, how do you go about it? A lot of people maybe just use their digital cameras, though I'm not sure on the sound qaility- I know mine isn't great. The only advantage being is being able to video record the hands/keyboard as well.

Are you happy for having purchased the CN43?

Thanks!

CN33 and digital camera recorder owner here. The sound from my Canon is surprisingly good. But I don't share via YT or other publishing methods, just use it for practice feedback.

fractalCarrot,

Recording your performances using a video camera is one option, however the sound captured by the onboard mic may not be terribly good. Some cameras feature a line-in connector, which would allow you to feed the CN43's sound directly into the camera for a high-quality recording.

If your camera doesn't offer this functionality, you could record just the video, while saving an MP3/WAV recording of your performance on the CN43. Then combine the audio and video using PC/Mac software.

Kind regards,
James

Thanks for the replies. I've no plans to be sharing on these social network sites either, though I may upload something here when I'm feeling brave..Likewise I'll just be using it for practise feedback.
I had a quick loof for cameras on amazon recently, shame I only bought a new one one less than a year ago otherwise I'd look out for one with the line-in connector. I'll try the combining in the computer option and see how it goes, thanks!

I've had my CN43 for 3 months now. I love it!!!!

I've not used any of the recording features as I mostly play for my own enjoyment both solo and ensemble.

I've been playing ap for over 50 years, so switching to a dp has been a new learning experience.

If I could pick one feature I've enjoyed the most, it is the ability to switch temperments. As a classical player, the ability to switch easily between ET and Werkmeister has opened a new appreciation for earlier works...... and they finally sound right!

Thanks also Ocngypz! it's nice to know experienced acoustic players are happy with the digital piano too. Being a beginner myself, I had to look up what you meant by temperaments, and I'm pretty sure it's not something I'll be worrying about for a while.. I'm still going to have to wait a few months before I can get started with it though, so I just keep re-watching the sales video over and over again for now.
Thank you.
