Yeah CdL is a great tune. Monica brought the tune to the session, I'm always "let's give it a try" but wasn't really sure, classical and jazz have a hard time jelling sometimes.

As I was a hired gun for the production, I've been paid. The label is owned and run by Monica and her husband (this is their 16th production), I'm their go-to producer/mixer/designer - (I do moonlight as a producer/mixer for others, just now I'm mixing tracks for a folk-rock band.)
For them to make the most you have to either buy it in a shop in Sweden or purchase a CD from their Swedish distributors web-shop, you have to register, pay via Visa or Paypal and then wait for the mail to do it's deed.
By all means get it from iTunes, if you want to have the booklet (not sure if iTunes provides one), I could send you (or any other) a pdf. Do let me know.

No. They're e-distributors. Only online, only their terms.
A "real" distributor would distribute/sell to retailers the physical cd's, and would also aid in marketing the cd.

The Swedish distributor has a deal with iTunes, Amazon, etc but only for e-rights. And yes, a cut does go back to Sweden.

Cathy (Jotur) had nice news yesterday in another thread that a venue asked them back.

Well I had good news too. I had a venue ask me back again yesterday to book next month. So it looks like it's another regular monthly thing. We played for them twice (they booked as twice from references before they heard us).

Not as efficient as my other venue where we're scheduled a year ahead. But from the feedback, it looks like we're in for the long haul. This actually means another band is doing less gigs there. We pushed someone else out.

On another topic, playing with a lot of musicians has exposed me to new things that I never learned and am enjoying the learning experience. This is the advantage of paid gigs. I get to play with regular gigging jazz players instead of newbies. And it challenges my game constantly since everyone is always better than me.

With my regular band members, a typical thing is to do so tunes in funk (very difficult for me), or 6/8 types of feel on 3/4 tunes, 2 feel, or some other feel I can't even describe.

A new bass player I worked with recently wanted me to experiment with "Soul Jazz". I don't really know what it is and I googled it and it's some development in Hard Bop. I think it's kind of neat when the interaction within the group causes everyone to try something different, especially unplanned.

As I've found out, when I am exposed to a different groove, I do things differently. I'm confused at first since I don't know how to solo on it. Like Funk really requires syncopated stylings and heavy on sixteenths, I found. So it caught me off guard at first.

Often, I find the unexpected grooves are really crowd pleasers. So I go with the flow a lot and see what the group feels like doing. It turns tunes like So What into an unexpected jam.

I think this is what makes what I do unique. I'm not going to shake anyone's boots from my solos but I'm interested in the group sound.

So I'm curious as to everyone's knowledge of some groove variations when playing jazz. Or are you just doing straight-ahead all the time? And is what I do a good thing or a bad thing?

Jazzwee: My trio doesn't do a wide variety of grooves because we simply don't have the skill. I think you need at least one musician that knows funk or some similar groove to help the others along.

Partly becuase of that, I recently signed up for a Latin Jazz Ensemble class and I'm taking a few private lessons to so I have some idea what I'm doing. It's a blast and so different. There are hardly any chord changes, and the piano player mainly plays a montunno over and over, but you are really and truly part of the rhythm section. Hopefully I'll bring some of this to my trio when I can do it more comforably. Listening to a lot of Eddie Palmieri, as well.

Everyone loves a good drummer. Try some samba and some tango on nice mid tempo tunes.
