I believe that there is a lack of interest in this DP due to the high pricing in the states. Its relatively cheap here (5k USD compared to the 6k++ CA93). I did play on this piano a couple of times and surprisingly the sound and touch is comparable to a couple of uprights ive tried. One of the noticeable aspects is the resonation of the low notes.. its simply fantastic for a DP (probably the best ive heard)

The CVP 505 however is pale in comparison.. the gap is simply huge between the two models.

Has anyone else tried the CVP 509? Would love to hear your comments!

May I ask the price of the instrument, and where 'here' is?

A CVP-509 for 5k USD less than the CA93?
Either the CVP is being given away for free, or the Kawai is severely overpriced.

Cheers,
James

kawai james,

I have edited my post (sorry for the poor language :D). I am currently residing in singapore and sadly enough the kawai products are overpriced here!

I have not played the 509. But from the specifications alone, it stands amongst the best. Yamaha sg site shows retail price of Sing dollar S$8400.

I wish those Yamaha things didnt have all those ugly panels on them. Maybe more people would be interested in them if they didnt look like control panels for a spaceship or something.

That's true, nobody does ugly control panels like Yamaha.

There's an easy fix. On pianos with a sliding key cover, you can just slide the cover to hide the controls.

The position of the cover is then just where the fallboard would be ... so the result looks just like an acoustic piano. No controls visible.

I agree with your thoughts on the control panel. But I am actually looking for more honest feedback on the sound of the CVP 509 smile

It's a three generation old Yamaha piano sample ...nothing special.
A P155 sounds practically identical.
The rest of the sounds are from the 5 year old Tyros 2

Draw your own conclusions about this boards true value.

Yamaha NW action = very good (but there are better actions)
Yamaha 5 level sampling = good (but nothing special)
Yamaha iAFC sound system = excellent (definitely one of the better onboard sound systems)

In terms of what it is as a piano it is good but unremarkable. In terms of what it is as an entertainment centre it is the best there is whilst also being a decent enough digital piano. If pure piano is your priority I would look elsewhere. If the other stuff is important to you it could be a sensible choice.
