I'm thinking of perusing a performance degree in college and this is what they're asking for (in the college that I think I might go to, it's not a conservatory) I have about less then a year to prepare

Are these pieces okay to perform?
A Prelude and Fugue or comparable work by J.S. Bach
Bach's P&F in F#Major(haven't learned yet)
A sonata by Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart or Schubert
Beethoven sonata Op 10 No. 1 (started on first movement now, going to finish at least by june)
Any large keyboard work of Brahms, Chopin, Liszt or Schumann
Brahms rhapsody Op 79 no 1 (Maybe..dunno if I'm up to it, my summer project)
A Twentieth Century Composition
Rach's prelude in c sharp minor(Finished learning it recently)

On a side note I started piano three years ago.

One bit I'm confused about is that what's the difference between applying for Graduate and Under Graduate programs?

(new to the forums by the way :p)

Welcome to the Piano Forums!

What exactly does your piano teacher say about all of this? That would be the place to start with questions.

How about your major scales?
Minor scales?
In all keys?
Also, many colleges expect you to memorize
Your pieces, and consider bachs works already in
Your repitoire.

That's a long haul for just a year, but good luck. I'm auditioning next year for a college

Yes I know my scales but your right, I think it is a bit of a haul so maybe I'm going to drop the Brahms piece for an easier romantic piece which I'm still trying to decide. I have the c minor P&F in my rep. but my teacher said it's a bit overplayed and that I should try another one -.-' the only thing I'm worried about is if my level is adequate to even pursue a performance degree (but I really love music) although I do get intimated a bit by some pieces of music.

Good luck to you too ^^!

You must be learning fast! In my opinion, those pieces are perfectly fine. What the audition panel is looking for is pieces that can represent your ability and skill the most. Nothing too difficult, but these pieces that you have picked out are not difficult at all. One question you might want to ask yourself is if you are comfortable performing these pieces, they are not extremely hard, but they do require a lot of work.

To me, it is important that I enjoy the pieces. Run it by your teacher and the goals you have for your future. My goal was to get into the big conservatories so my teacher assigned me very difficult repertoire, but I loved performing them.

To be honest, run these pieces by your teacher because they know best ^^ hope I helped
