Was planning on picking up a yamaha DGX-640 but seeing how that product is around 2 years old, I'm thinking a DGX-650 is just around the corner. What do you think? Should I pick up a 640 now or wait?

That depends on the specifiations of the new version - don't have time right now to read about it.

I'm sure you will be advised to get a piano with more weight in the keys. As I recall, the DGX-640 has the same kind of weighted keys as the P85, which I have.

Although I sometimes wish I had gotten the DGX-640 or 630 instead, because those pianos offer so many extra features - sometimes called bells and whistles!

I would love a DP with better weighted keys but I'm still a beginner and having the learning features would be helpful.

Yamaha has not announced a successor to the DGX-640 yet(as far as I know of) but that could change any day. Anyone know there usual release cycle for their piano products?

Yamaha's cycle is often the longest of the major brands with quite a few products having 4+ years and very few with less that 3 yrs. If it has the features you want, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting.

According to the specifications of the 630 and 640, the latter doesn't seem so different - has a few more voices and effects, polyphony the same (64) and the latter is 2 kg. heavier.

Don't know when the DGX650 is coming, does anyone? Still, there is always a better model just around the corner, if people would always wait for that, they would never buy pianos. Only thing, if a new model will soon be released, the DGX-640 could drop in price.
