Another good one! Very interesting read, especially that after winning Tchaik that he is studying with Babayan.

I don't want to sound cynical but Daniil Trifonov does not play Chopin well.

I don't want to sound cynical but Daniil Trifonov does not play Chopin well. Rather than just dismissing this pianist's Chopin playing, would you spend a bit of time supporting your opinion?

Very thoughtful responses. Love a 20-something who quotes Tolstoy. He prompted me to look up the entire paragraph:
"Human beings are like rivers—the water in all of them, and at every point, is the same, and each of them is narrow at one point and swift at others, wide at some points, calm at others, clear at some points, cold at others, muddy at some points, warm at others. And so it is with humankind. Each of us bears within him the potential for all human qualities, sometimes manifesting one quality, sometimes another, and often enough he does not seem himself at all, manifesting no change."

That kind of thing is very difficult to just "sum up".

That kind of thing is very difficult to just "sum up". How bout just a few specific examples?

Just listen to him play.. that's a better idea than me trying to scientifically explain how he plays Chopin "badly".

Just listen to him play.. that's a better idea than me trying to scientifically explain how he plays Chopin "badly". I have listened to him play. I am interested in why you think he plays Chopin badly. I don't know how one would explain someone's playing scientifically, that makes no sense. Just tell us, in your opinion, what makes you feel he plays Chopin badly. I don't mean to pick on you, I am just surprised that someone would assert that type of opinion and then not be willing or able to support it even a little.
