I was on a Christmas lunch. The majority of the population here celebrates Christmas today, on January 7th, which is December 25th by Julian calender, abandoned more than hundred years ago in everyday life, but the church still counts days in the old fashioned way. So, we, Russians, and some more nations have it today.

Witnessed and assisted at a pretty bad 2-car accident today that ended up with a van on its side. Ended up using the pointy end of a wire rubber mute handle to puncture the airbag so we could get the passenger out of the van!

Broke the other string on the same note of the CFIIIS at a special make-up show tonight.

Yesterday I went to the dentist, and there was a power failure while I was there, so I have to be rescheduled.

A familiar bread and butter day.
Tuned two very neglected nicklodians yesterday, 150+ cents flat, rusted strings, loose tuning pins, worn and out of regulation action, many bobbling and deeply grooved hammers - moth eaten and some not hitting all strings of unison, dampers moth eaten, key bushings worn and many missing - did not take off the bottom board but pedals all had noise issues.
The good news is that nothing broke and I got paid.
The bad news is the owner believes he has gems, does not want to do any repairs but cringes at the thought of ultimate disposal - or possibly this is the good news and I am missing it.

No, I replaced it, as I replaced the other string.

It is the A-flat which is the lowest note in the top section. I recall breaking several of these strings. I may have replaced this particular string once before. There is probably too much tension there. I suspect that at least 90% of the problems attributed to old pianos in that area, lack of sustain, weak tone, are due to high tension causing problems as the strings age. I have said that pianos should change gauges more near the tenor break, rather than the top of the treble, and this sort of thing convinces me of it more and more.

Off to the bocce league playoffs now!

Pitch raised a late 60's Knabe console & tuned. Fixed a broken key and tweaked some hammers that were hanging up on their neighbors.

Thanks Loren! smile I'll be off from work for 4-6 weeks from what the Dr. Said. Then, I have to have my right shoulder looked at next. That crunches when I move it and clicks and snaps and hurts! Getting old I guess~

Unless your other shoulder hurts too, it couldn't be because of age. The other shoulder is just as old and it doesn't hurt. You may have to explain this to the Doctor, though.
