As I commented in AOTW thread I’ve started studying the second volume of “Mikrokosmos” by Bartók. These little pieces are really inspirational for beginners like me, they sound really nice.

A glutton for punishment, I saw Easy Rider and Midnight Cowboy at the movies on the same day.

That must have been a little depressing ... after seeing Easy Rider I bought the first of my many motorcycles ... finally gave them up after thirty years of riding ... great times and great memories of some epic road trips ... now I ride a piano bench

Another sixties child here!

[Small Faces - All or Nothing}

I just watched this. I used to sing this song in one of my bands many years ago. Check out the reversed keyboard colours at around 2:00. Also, where is Steve Marriott's big white Gretsch in this one?

Thank you Griffin (lucky guess!), Piano joy (kisses, please), piRound (not belated!), Recaredo, Rupak and Eglantine for my birthday wishes and postings.

Thank you Elssa for the Tull. This reminded me of my concert going days.

I used to really enjoy trips to the Royal Albert Hall for their Tchaikovsky Evenings. This would fill the place with cannon smoke - a great ending to a great night every time I went.

I love Tchaikovsky....
so, while Richard was experiencing classical, elegant music, I was being dragged (by friends, no less!) to outdoor amphitheaters in Ohio and made to listen to the likes of:

I'd like to go on record as saying I did NOT like him THEN and I still feel the same!
ha ha!

I just got home and see all of these lovely 60s pieces. As a Child of the 60s, here is my contribution. The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools."

Now, I know you guys like a bit classical on a Sunday. Classical music is not really my thing but I do like spiritual music like this ... just too beautiful.

If anyone can point me in the direction of a CD collection like this I'd be grateful.

I played this twice this morning CaptainKawai. Absolutely beautiful! I have a CD called "Choral Masterpieces" with Robert Shaw conducting the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Mozart's "Ave Verum Corpus" is one of the pieces included in that collection. I've always loved it. The CD is on the Telarc label.

It would be hard to know what else you might like on that CD. Here is one from that CD collection that I particularly enjoy, "He Watching Over Israel" from Elijah by Felix Mendelssohn. While I was unable to locate the performance from the CD I mentioned, I think the performance by Seattle Pro Musica is quite lovely. I hope you enjoy it.

Good morning everyone. It's a sunny spring morning in Minneapolis, my nasty bug has nearly vanished! I'm still trying to catch up with all of these wonderful postings from the week. I'm almost there. Of course, I have some classical music to share today. Thanks CaptainKawai for the Mozart. I share your connection with that beautiful choral selection.

My next selection is a piano transcription by Franz Liszt, "Die Lorelei." The pianist is Wolfgang Wagenhaeuser.

My next selection is a performance by soprano Leontyne Price of "Chi il bel sogno di Doretta" from La Rondine by Giacomo Puccini. Enjoy!

My next selection is a combination of African American spirituals performed by the Nathaniel Dett Chorale, "Is There a Light Shining in the Heavens."

Plan on spending some uninterrupted quality time with my final post for today! It's worth it! You may want to put on the headphones and crank up the volume!

Here is "Bolero" performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Great stuff, Griffin, as usual.

Spiritual music, CaptainKawai? Do you mean with a religious theme or music in the spirirt of an invocation?

Rutter's Pie Jesu is one in the former category and Massenet's Meditation is kind of in that area.

The slow movements of Haydn's String Quartets move me spiritually but don't have that purpose nor does the Intermezzo to Bizet's Carmen. But these pieces make me feel as if I've died and gone to Heaven.

<waves briefly>
I somehow managed to catch the latest double bill of The Bridge - yet another Scandi-thriller! - late last night on iplayer after getting back from a conference.

Anyone following The Bridge will recognise this as the title and credits music:

Right, back to work.... :-(
I will have to catch up with all the lovely music here later in the week...
