Hi All,

I'm having a conundrum. I've been out of he piano world for 30 years and want to get back into it.

I wanted to buy a DP and really want the closest I can get to an acoustic without paying acoustic prices BUT I saw the CVP line and thought that would be a lot of fun and keep me interested then crapped myself when I saw the sticker. On to my question:

Can I purchase a CLP and have my laptop sit on top to emulate a CVP or am I stuck paying 2k more than I wanted just so I can have the features of the CVP?

thanks,

Will

I don't think you can access the CVP voices via 3rd party software. There are things such as Pianoteq which makes your DP sound more realistic, but that's not what you're talking about doing.

I would just get the CVP if you really like it and its features. Not only does it have more voices than the CLP, it also has some physical differences that make it a superior piano and worth the price to many.

When you say you want to emulate a CVP ... what capabilities of the CVP do you want?

What really hooked me on the CVP line was the accompaniment feature. It sounds like there is a band behind you. The dummy lights was a turn off but at least the whole key didn't light up.

Unfortunately you pay through the nose for all the extra's. I really liked the feel of the CLP 430 for the GH3, Ivory toped keys and it was in my price range but it didn't have all the bells and whistles of the CVP line.

In short I want a CLP 440 quality digital piano with the toys of a CVP. I'm not married to Yamaha, those are the better DP's I've seen.

Just FYI the CLP 430 does not have synthetic ivory keys. That "feature" starts on the CLP 440 and up.

The CVP accompaniment features can be a lot of fun. I have the CVP-409GP and have periodic spells where I enjoy using them on and off for a week or two, but then go back to just using my CVP as Midi keyboard to play software virtual pianos. I don't think there is any computer software substitute that comes close to CVP styles and accompaniment features, so if you want those you really need to pay the price of the CVP vs CLP.
