Price age, and condition being equal, which is the better buy: a Polish made Schirmer & Sons 45" upright, or a Czech made Weinbach 50" upright? Both made in 1997. I appreciate your advice.

Both pianos came into the USA in rough musical condition in 1997. The Schirmer was the same as Th. Betting as I remember. They didn't do much in the US market, but they were decent.

My choice would be the Weinbach with two caveats:

1) Have it examined by an independent tech. These pianos had a fair number of flaws that made it through QC.

2) If it has an action built by Detoa, be sure it is well serviced, regulated, and musically voiced. If not, reserve extra $$ for these services. An independent tech. will also be able to tell you this.

Good Luck,
