Hey everyone,

Im not sure if im right here, but ive got some important questions. My fiance is a Piano Tuner Technician here in Germany and he has 7 years of working experience and has have his own business for 3 of these 5 years also.
We always wanted to move to Canada especially BC for quite some time now and hereĀ“s my question.

Is there a chance for him to work in canada? and ( i know its quite personal ) how much is the salery?

If anyone can help answer my questions, would be great because google couldnt help me at all...

Thanks a lot in advance

Sabrina

Hello Sabrina,
Most technicians here are independent and work for themselves, alone. There are very few who work full time for universities. These jobs do not come up often as the technicians tend to stay for years. There are music stores which have a full time technician on staff, but many employers prefer to hire outside technicians on a contract basis. Openings are very few, there is not much demand as the market is shrinking more than it is expanding.

Still, many independent technicians can make a fairly good living. Of course these are people who have been in business long enough to establish the size of clientele one needs to stay busy and generate the income needed. I live on Vancouver Island which is a desirable place to live for many people. But many find making a living here is not so easy.

That said, I believe that there will always be a demand for quality work. A solid background in the field is definitely huge advantage. European craftsmen are regarded quite highly here, and rightly so.
