I saw a piano today that had a crack from #88 down to #81. It was epoxied and holding. The customer said that the crack was about a quarter inch wide at #88 before the fix and the strings ran across the bridge straight. My question is how big of a bridge crack "can" be fixed with epoxy? I always thought you just replace the bridge when it gets that bad. I was surprised that this bridge was holding up structurally, and it didnt sound bad.

Epoxy is amazing stuff if you know how to use it.

I have used west system epoxy many times with great results, but never on anything this big. I may have to get more adventurous in the future with what I am willing to use it on.

I am just unsure it is easier/faster, once the strings are off.

I have once epoxied bridge pins and did not like the tone (and the idea that it will be difficult to take them out !) But if the customer have done that himself I think it is a good idea (better than find that the last notes cannot be tuned !)
