Out of all of today's young pianists, I really like Benjamin Grosvenor. Who do you like?

They come and go so fast that I don't even remember them from one day to the next, and musically they seem like generic plug-and-play devices, so why should I even bother?

One of the few I kind of remember as actually having a real musical point of view of his own that made me want to pay attention is the Russian fellow who is doing all of the Prokofiev concertos with the BBC orchestras... but I forget his name.

I think Tao, Grosvenor, and Lisiecki are all going to be major artists and have lengthy, highly successful careers. I'd add Trifunov, Wunder, Zhang and Blechacz to the list also. I think they all are already great artists.

Yawn...just the current crop of the same old same old.

At any rate, the OP now has your response to his query, even if you didn't respond to him.

OSK,

He is studying piano and horn at the Frost School, along with starting his computer science concentration. He decided that engineering really wasn't his thing and switched over to computer science. We'll see if that lasts ...

I think it's great that he can work at the Frost School without being a committed major. Many of the other schools he looked at didn't allow that. If you weren't a major you were truly a second class citizen. Heck, since he is studying with a regular member of the piano faculty he has a trump card for the good practice rooms, even though he isn't a major. If there is some performance major violinist in a room with a grand piano, he can kick them out! Piano students have priority access.
