Some of you will be pleased to know that I have finally got my finger out and started to 'audition' some Chinese grands.
I really liked the Feurich 218 great action, rich tone throughout ppp to fff my accompanist also loved it - only thing is it may be a bit too big.
The 178 too was also nice but I can't get the 'bad' feeling I have about the laminated soundboard and it lacks the extra richness in the bass that you get in a 6' plus grand.
Both pianos were beautifully prepaired the 218 tone wise would be suitable for my needs playing wise and also for ensemble. It is a pity Feurich (Ningbo)don't do a model between 6-7 foot just to give a better string length than the 178.
I will now have to try a brodmann 187 and maybe a 212.

They tend not to sound as good, really. Partly because they're only put in cheaper pianos which may not be as well made anyway.
I think the Brodmann 187 is one of the best sounding pianos for the money, even take away the price tag and it's still pretty good. I haven't played a 212.
The Feurich doesn't have a laminated board does it?

Let's lend a little logical thought to the type of technology in the Feurich "laminated" board. It is not plywood. It is a traditional spruce soundboard with a facing veneer on each side of the soundboard. The idea is that it strengthens the seams between strips of wood (there are always many in a board) and resists cracking from these seams separating. It will not make an "uncrackable" soundboard.
Some say that the extra mass of these veneers prevent the soundboard from vibrating as well. In reality, the total mass of this addition is only a small fraction of the weight of a single rib, of which every piano has many. It is also a tiny fraction of the weight of maple bridges, which are on every decent piano, of course.
My best advice, as it was on the carbon fiber soundboard, is to listen to the piano. If you keep an open mind you may be surprised.
My 2 cents,

Laminated soundboards can be a good thing or a bad thing. Just because you hear the word laminated, don't let that scare you. You hesitate to buy a "plastic" body car, yet Corvette has been made with a plastic or fiberglass body for decades. I wouldn't put the Corvette in the catagory of cheap, budget cars. It's a high performance machine. It's not the laminated soundboard that is totally responsible for the sound, but a combination of many factors. A well engineered laminated sound board can be a big plus.

The Feurich doesn't have a laminated board does it? The 218 has a solid spruce soundboard (strunz)but the 178 is laminated.
