Hello all!

I am needing help. I have a Kimball Grand action that I'm working on with a missing whippen. Here is the picture...

I cannot find a serial number, but I believe the piano was made in 1981. Am I correct that Kimball's used Schwander actions? I found a whippen on p. 119 in the Schaff Cagalogue that says it will fit a Schwander type grand action, however I don't see how it will work. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help!!!

This is Kimball's "compact" grand action. I believe it was only used in their "La Petite" (4' 7") grands.

I probably have a few of these around if you're not in too big a hurry. Contact me privately at one of the email addresses below.

Yes, that's a little differently-shaped than the Schwander wippens in my 6'7 from that same time frame. It also seems quite a bit smaller, which matches Del's description of it being "compact".

I found the serial number on mine down on the underside of the piano, on the fairly thick, metal L-bracket that is running parallel to the keyboard. That bracket on mine is painted black and the serial number was "engraved", so to speak, and was only noticeable when I took a light under the piano to look for it. It's so well disguised, you can easily miss it, but the numbers/letters are actually fairly big. Hope that helps.
