Here is probably the best version of sweet jane ever....

Mott the hoople of course.

Here is one you may never have heard before, Ian Hunter taking the P*** out of the ownership and use of guns.

Good man.

Goodness gracious! It sure will be a challenge to determine what Sunday Classical music posting to start with following Rossy and PPP! grin I think I'm up to the task, however.

I hope everyone is doing well. I've been scarce this week because we're in a super busy time at work for at least one more week. Hopefully, things will simmer down after that and I can do more postings than just my Sunday classical music.

Rossy, I just realized with your Mott the Hoople posting that I had never heard much of their music until you posted their music nearly a year ago when RST got started. Ah nostalgia!

Well enough of that. I'll be right back with my postings!

My first selection is the Fugue from "Toccata, Adagio & Fugue in C Major" by Johann Sebastian Bach. It is performed by Hans Andre Stamm.

My next selection by J.S. Bach is the "Double Violin Concerto in D minor 2nd movement, Largo.". While, I don't have any information about the performers, here are a few notes about the composition from Wikipedia.

Quote
The Concerto for Two Violins in D minor (BWV 1043) is perhaps one of the most famous works by J. S. Bach and considered among the best examples of the work of the late Baroque period. Bach wrote it in Leipzig sometime between 1730 and 1731, most likely for the Leipzig Collegium Musicum, of which he was the director. It also exists in an arrangement for two harpsichords, transposed into C minor (BWV 1062). In addition to the two soloists, the concerto is scored for strings and basso continuo.
The concerto is characterized by the subtle yet expressive relationship between the violins throughout the work. The musical structure of this piece uses fugal imitation and much counterpoint.
The concerto comprises three movements:
Vivace
Largo ma non tanto
Allegro

Enjoy!

My next selection is the first movement, "Allegro non troppo" from "Symphony No. 1" by the American composer Samuel Barber. It is performed by the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra conducted by Leonard Slatkin. The pictures are by American painter and muralist, Thomas Hart Benton.

My next selection is the second movement of Antonin Dvořák's String Quartet No. 12 in F, Op. 96, "American". It is performed by the Leipzig String Quartet.

This will be my final posting for today. I leave you with this moving performance of an old African American spiritual by Sweet Honey in the Rock. Here they perform "Wade in the Water" during a sound check at Koerner Hall in Toronto. This performance was shot for a TV episode.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Interesting listening/posts today. It brought me back to memories of this group (my father used to listen to when I was growing up.) Some of their Bach-jazz variations are really great.

Anyway came across this one today. Apparently the group is still strong and well and clearly are as sharp as ever ...

Greener, I remember the Swingle Singers from high school days. We sang some of their Bach jazz variations in high school choir. It was fun! Thanks for the post.

Helen, thanks for posting the spirituals from "A Child of Our Time." I had never heard these before. I found it very interesting how they incorporated them into an oratorio. I think I will probably be exploring these more in depth later the summer.

It's way past my bedtime. Good night!

I missed my Saturday postings once again due to some unavoidable situations frown So, once again, I've to compensate for that today.

Today I'll introduce another very famous instrument used in ICM. It's called Sarangi. It a bowed string instrument (like violin or cello etc.) having a very beautiful tone and it can imitate some of the most typical musical ornaments that only a human voice can produce.
Let's enjoy the charming Sarangi performances by maestro Ustad Sultan Khan on raga Ahir Bhairavi:

...and raga Charukeshi:

I didn't get enough time to listen Griffin's classical postings yesterday and today's postings. Hopefully I'll be able to finish them by tonight. Thanks everyone for such great postings.

Well, I guess he's about the only one that plays an autoharp in a rock & roll band. laugh

Good morning everyone! As you know I'm in a very busy work period through this week. Rupak, I can definitely relate to what you said about trying to manage work and other responsibilities with music making and music sharing!

I'm sure everyone else on this thread can relate as well. I just thought I'd take a few minutes to say thanks to you and everyone on this thread who takes whatever time they can to share all of this wonderful music!

I'm looking forward to listening to all of your postings a bit later. In the meantime, off to work I go! Have a great day everyone!

Laura’s thread about the typewriter has inspired me to post this video.

This instrument doesn’t seem to be difficult to play, but in contrast it’s really hard to prepare...

well., I thought it may be time to wake up a bit , so I put this on and thought it may help as things have been a bit quiet here.

When I say quiet , i did pop over to PianisCorner to have a quick arguament, just out of boredom, I was not defecting or anything.

You know folks, its nigh on impossible to have just a normal "five minute" arguament on PC, they allways try and rope you in to the four day "lock down" arguaments that require one to be a dedicated arguer, with RCM grade sixteen + distinction in arguing technique no matter what else you may have to do.

One day someone on PC is going to die of an arguing related illness, and the coroners report will read something like:

"Natural causes, did argue themselves stupid and died a lingering death complicated by lack of logical thought progression"

Or, "died from a sress related arguament with a member"

Or. "cause of death unknown but thought to be connected to a difference of opinion with everyone about everything"

Oh well, glad its calmer here allthough very quiet, where are you all dudes and dudetts?

Hi everyone! Rossy, I just got home from a very hectic day. Our event is only 3 days away. It should go quite well. However, I'll be glad when it's over. Just in time to do my Sunday postings too!

After that, I'll be able to catch up on listening, and add a little more variety to my postings next week. Hope you and everyone are doing well. Later!
