The Ivory plugin sounds much cleaner. The Yamaha C7 version sounds all muddy and harsh. Perhaps it is the recording difference?

What is it you want us to comment on? The recording quality?

It's an unfair comparison. The sampled piano is meticulously prepared, tuned and recorded in a studio with top notch equipment. Your C7 is a home piano recorded on whatever gear you have. Unless you have had your C7 prepped and tuned in the same way the Bosendorfer was and recorded using high end mikes and gear, it not a fair comparison. Even then, a C7 isn't a CFX. Apples and oranges...

Another factor with recording that come from a sampled piano is they tend to lack the resonance of a real piano. This can often make a recording sound cleaner because the resonance doesn't get away from you like it does on a real piano with excessive pedal. Real pianos are like a wild animal - they have to be tamed with technique more than a sampled piano does.

Finally, I have no doubt the player experience in playing a real C7 is light years ahead of playing a controller keyboard and a sampled program.

The recording of a real grand piano is much harder (especially when recorded with a simple camera). The recording of something like 'Syntolgy Ivory' Is much much easier.
I thought I could show you you the difference.`
You, however, can say what you want.

Interesting. The 'player performance' was just as rewarding in both cases.

really enjoyed the second one's sound.

Note to self: learn how to use that dust-collecting midi cable to make better recordings

While being fully aware that the recording quality of the C7 could vary the sound significantly, I really appreciate this comparison as I am considering taking the VST route in lieu of a DP upgrade in the short-mid term. So thanks for that.

So, for your own enjoyment, play the C7.
For other people's enjoyment, i.e. recording, Ivory 2.

Cheers
