So I need (ok *want*) an H4N....

Looking at local retailers I'm staring at AU$400 - which is more than I can afford..

Looking at various online retailers in Australia I can find a price down to AU$345 inc. postage...

BUT

In a couple of months time I'm about to go on a corporate drinking sessionconference to Hawaii ! (yipeee). So, I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of a place where I can get one of these babies for significantly less?... Walmart have them listed at US$300 - which makes it barely worth the effort, but if I can find anywhere in Honolulu that can do me a better price, my chances of acquiring one may improve...

This is - I recgonise - a long shot, but so many people in here have raved about the Zooms and perhaps someone knows the Hawaiian music retail scene????

Are you able to purchase on amazon.com? The H4n is $253. I can only attest to the H2n which I bought a few months ago - I'm really pleased with it.

Do you think they'll deliver to the Sheraton Waikiki beach?

Hmmm, not likely. Do you have any American friends who will be attending this drinking bash, I mean conference, who amazon can deliver to, and they bring it to said bash and voila, you have a new recorder at a great price?

Why not the H1 for audio? It's much more inexpensive!

Yes... I think they would. Use UPS. They are good. Put a note in the shipping that yes you do want it delivered to the hotel. Have the desk sign for it. I'd just check with the Hotel to make sure they would do it.
I'd also like to suggest a couple other recorders. They seem to be more highly regarded in quality than Zoom. One that is extremely good is the Roland R-26. Available online for US $499. Worth the cost. The other Rolands and same using a different name (forget the name right now) share comparatively the same quality opinion. Also the Tascam's are higher quality than Zoom. I think it would be worth your while to look into both of these brands.
This higher quality opinion is from recording people. Also take it for granted they love things like the Roland R-4 much better...Used professionally. We don't want to spend that kind of money.
You might be able to grab a better price. Look at the music instrument sites during holidays.

Hotels receive deliveries for guests all the time. It would be courteous to let the hotel know when the package is due to arrive and alert them if the reservation and the delivery are under even slightly different names.

Slightly OT, but my six year old Zoom H4 is about to quit completely. I've been looking for a replacement, and I love a bargain . . . Just ordered a Tascam DR-05 from amazon.com for $65.99 (was $179.99). It's an older model, but has very good reviews. The Zoom has been a trusty friend, and I will miss it when it's gone, but this should help ease the pain.

Edited to add link:

Tascam
