Hi!

I have a Yamaha C7 with black polyester finish. The previous owner applied a 'YAMAHA' decal with tuning fork logo to the treble side of the case to make it look like the brass one you see on the sides of the CFIII concert grands. I found an identical decal in the piano stool which suggests it was made by Avery Graphics. It actually looks really good but unfortunately the letters have got chipped over time and I would like to remove it. Could anyone advise how I could do this without damaging the polyester finish?

Try acetone. Worst case scenario you may need to buff out some dullness with an electronic drill, a buffer pad from home depot and Maquires polish from an auto parts store.

I would suggest going to a hobby store and get a decal setting solution. It softens the film of the decal and shouldn't affect the poly finish. If the previous owner covered it with a clear coat, it would need to be buffed off.

Check out " http://www.pianoatlas.com/decals.html ". They have instructions for removal. Some are easier than others - I imagine if it's set in lacquer, it might be more than a DIY job.
