Hi,
I asked this question on the digital pianos forum, but in retrospect I think this forum is way better suited for it.

My setup:
I have a acoustic Piano (Kawai K3) with a silent module installed to obtain a midi signal from the keys and the pedals. The signal from the pedals unfortunately isn't continuous, so just on (127) and off (0) are transmitted. The midi signal is redirected to my mac, which is running synthogy ivory 2, which supports half pedaling.

What I would like to have:
I'd like to get a continuous midi signal from the mechanical damper pedal. Right now there seems to be a sensor installed that just delivers on or off. So I would like to install some kind of potentiometer and convert the signal in a midi signal and then combine it with the signal obtained from the keys.

Can anybody point me in the right direction, where I have to look at (what kind of hardware I would need, etc.)?

Thanks in advance.

Would installing a variable electrical device, such as a potentiometer, solve it, if you continue to use the Kawai silent system? It seems to me the silent system needs to accept and respond to the midi values in between 0 and 127; does it? If I was in your shoes I'd ask Kawai for help

Of course there are VST solutions that do take the other midi values for half pedaling, but then as someone suggested on the digital forums you might as as well use a separately purchased variable pedal (since you're already moving away from using the Kawai).

Thanks for the answer. I should have mentioned, that the silencer system I use is not the one from Kawai and that send the midi signal to my mac, which runs Synthogy Ivory 2.
So essentally I just need a continuous midi signal from the pedal, which is then combined with my silencer midi output. So the main question seems to be how to get a midi signal from a potentiometer or some other kind of distance measuring sensor.
A separate variable pedal would be a far from optimal solution in my opinion, but maybe it can be mounted to the mechanical penal somehow to obtain the midi signal.

I'm currently developing such a midifying system on my own. It also is able to sense and output coninuous pedal values (1-127) and uses optical sensors that can be installed under the pedals or somewhere in the action to sense pedal movements. It can output midi data via usb (class compliant device should be compatible with your mac) or a normal midi connector. I'm planing to release a part of my work open sourced, so that anyone who wants can build a continuous multi pedal unit.
