'Opened a small console piano yesterday and got quite a surprise. There was a very dusty 1 /12" wide strip of innertube material stretched over the back of the keys. It affected the touch rather drastically as you can imagine, and since it was anchored to the key bed at each end, the low "A" and the high "C" were unusable.

I removed it, did a little key easing, and the customer was happy.

Never say you've seen it all, I guess.

Sadly, not as unique a sluggish key solution as it should be:

David, I'm surprised they didn't have an overhead ceiling fan running full blast to reduce the down weight on the keys to acceptable levels. (Don't laugh...this was suggested to a piano player I know).

Not only is the choice of "lubricant" disturbing, so is the dropping of the mute handles on the fall board.

I was really bummed that I didn't have a camera with me.

I have no idea who thought up that "repair".

Jerry, have you been here in Maine "tooning" pianos?
