I am considering a D.H. Baldwin Chy 562, made in 2004. The height is 43.5 It is selling for
QUESTION:
Is this a true baldwin? Is it a good piano? I'm looking for a good piano for my kids who are learning. I do not know much about pianos. Any help will be appreciated.

Be careful of the manufacture date. Not sure "D. H." was used in 2004

I almost bought a D.H Baldwin baby grand once... 5'8". It is a long story, and I posted it (my experience with the D. H Baldwin) here on PW several years ago. Of course, at that time, I wasn’t as knowledgeable about pianos as I am now... (Not that I'm an expert now ).

Anyway, the D. H. Baldwin I almost bought was actually made by Samick in Korea. It would have been a nice starter grand for me, but in hindsight, it was a long way from a real Baldwin. The D. H. Baldwins were stencils that the Baldwin dealers sold at a lower price-point than the real, American made Baldwins at that time.

I doubt very seriously if the D.H. Baldwin you are looking at is a real Baldwin… probably a Samick, or maybe a Young Chang. Still, it may be a decent piano, depending on condition and price.

Thanks for your replies. I looked in the Pierce Piano Atlas, and I do not see any Baldwin CHY 562. In addition, the serial # 1573729 does not exist with the Baldwin. The Baldwin 2004 models have 6 digits (this one has 7), and should be greater that 380000. This piano is definitely not a Baldwin. I am staying away from it. Thanks for all the advice.
