I am searching a piano for my 6 years old. Here is what I find here: 20 years old Young Chang U-107 Tuned 5 years ago
Was told it is great condition Asking price $300.
Should I go for it if it is great condition? What should I pay attention when I check out the piano? Heard the piano key usually is harder to play, will it be too hard for young kid to start playing this piano?
Thanks, Coco

If possible, I would have a registered piano technician check out the piano. If it's in great condition, $300 sounds like a good price. It's always best to start a young person on a real piano. The keys shouldn't be hard to play assuming the piano is in good working order. By the way, 5 years is a long time to go without tuning; once a year should be absolute minimum.

This is a continental style cabinet, meaning the piano has short keys, in relation to other pianos. If not properly weighted, the key repetition can be slow. This is more of a starter piano, and probably will not support intermediate play, so it's fine for now, but prepare to trade up if your child progresses. Remove the panels and make sure there is no rust on the strings or tuning pins, and check for water stains and mouse damage. The price is very low. It's either a steal, or there is something wrong with it.
You will need to pitch raise the piano to pitch and do a follow up tuning two months later.

It's a very cheap piano for a very cheap price. You should not plan for it to serve you long term. Get what you can out of it and try to upgrade soon.

Despite of price I would recommend to avoid getting this piano altogether. Unless you are absolutely restricted by $$ Not only do non-weighted keys make a student "not" getting the right feel, owners often ignore to trade up when necessary later. We all too often become habitual animals.. It's the same with digital pianos and I often wonder how much quicker a student would have progressed without it. Do if absolutely necessary but don't - if not. Norbert
