Hi all!

I'll be in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area in two weeks visiting family and I also happen to be on the hunt for a new-to-me piano. I currently have a strong preference for a Petrof, due to its "European tone", medium-heavy touch and, at least until recently, decent pricing. Estonias, I have heard, are similar, but better and more expensive.

Is anyone aware of dealers or someone in particular selling Petrof or Estonia grands in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area? It would be wonderful to take of advantage of my time and use it to try out some pianos.

Thanks!

You'll have a great time at Peter's shop.

In my experience, which is limited, Petrofs have an extremely light touch. At least the last two Petrof grands I've played. I played several about 15 years ago and don't remember much about the touch at that time.

I don't believe there is a Petrof dealer in the Dallas/Ft Worth area currently.

As for pricing of Petrof pianos vs Estonia...well, let's just say that times have changed.

Enjoy your visit.

Thanks for the responses. My experience with Petrof's is very limited as well, but of the two Petrof grands I have played, both had heavier-than-normal touches and a gorgeous singing tone.

As for the pricing...I've heard plenty about "the times unchanging." It's extremely unfortunate, and seemingly detrimental to the Petrof company, as indicated by their recent down-sizing in production output due to declining sales. I'd love to try out Estonias, which seem to be what Peter Collora carries. However, I'm almost certain they will all be out of my price range. I'll give Peter a visit, regardless. smile

For Petrof to be of significant price advantage, it would have to be new/old stock or used. I'm sure there is some new/old stock in the market, just perhaps not in Dallas. I know of some in storage somewhere....

I hope you can reach for the Estonia. Otherwise, there are surely some improved Asian makes that easily give the older Petrofs a huge run for their money.

Thanks Sam.

Any specific names of the Asian makes that would easily give old Petrofs a run for their money? I could definitely use some suggestions.

USD 15 thousand maximum. I realize that I'll have to stretch a bit. My comfort zone is more around 10 to 12 thousand.

The usual Chinese suspects here are Hailun, Brodmann, Ritmueller and their derivatives Feurich, Cunningham, Keyserburg, and May Berlin. The Indonesian suspects are Seiler ED series, Knabe Artist series, and new Weber (which I guess is Korean?).

The dealer's attitude to prep is almost always the key to seeing these pianos in the right light. But given the designs and materials, I think they give the best Petrofs from 10-20+ years ago some serious competition.
