Hi All,

I have no clue where to start so maybe someone here can get the jist of my question and pass on the advise. My grandfather was a composer in the early 1900's He wrote several works and was very well known in Latin America and Europe for his works. Especially in Span and Portugal. He even wrote the Republican National Anthem for Spain during the Franco days. I only have a few original works from him for piano which are very interesting dating from his younger days to just before he passed away. My question is how do I find out if his work is still being published or performed? How can I get more of his work? For som unknow reason, I cannot find much info about him. Except for some short documentary broadcast from Cuba a few years ago. His name was "Ramon Torralba Y Campillo"

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

JT

Oh, I would be more than glad to post some copies of a short piece if anyone would like to read and play it. I would love to hear different interpretations of it.

Well this is a tough one.

I don't speak Spanish, so google didn't offer anything at all (when putting "Ramon Torralba Y Campillo" on...).

The only thing I could think of is to actually manually search/call publishers in the countries you mention (Spain, Portugal, Latin America (yes it's not a country...). There should be lists of publishers and maybe someone will know more.

If google cannot help, then only humans can! laugh

Then it's family. Maybe someone else in the family knows more about your grandfathers works?

It would be extra nice to have a piece and enjoy playing it (not for me, but for others as well).

I will scan a couple of short peices tonight and post them. I have one simple waltz he wrote when he was 16 and a more mature piece he wrote just two years before his death.

By the way, I found this link in France which has 3 pieces including a National anthem for Spain.

I have written them and should expect something soon.

Here is a piece he wrote when he was 15. I would love to hear some of you record this so I can listen to the different styles.

I have some much more advanced works from when he was older. Will try and scan those as well.

The links are currently dead, so no one will be able to try the work out, I'm afraid!

I would suggest checking with a conservatory of music in the country either where your grandfather was born or where he wrote most of his music. It would help if you speak and write Spanish.
