Historically lots of fun, artistic, or plain silly things have been done with the finish and design of piano cabinets over the years. This is a custom finish that I first did not like at all, but I have to say... it is growing on me.

We just set this piano up in our showroom. Please forgive the "phone photo". I just didn't want to go through the hassle of a better photo, but maybe I will do that in the morning to give a better idea of this look.

This is actually a beautiful example of a faux marble finish on an almost new (10 years old) Steinway M.

So, what are your thoughts? It is absolutely unique. Do you like it? Do you hate it? Would you own it or have this finish put on your piano? What if the finish were free? (It isn't)

Nice, but not for me. I like black.

Beautiful to look at but, for me, not good for a permanent piece of home furniture. Same category as white or extremely busy wood grain finishes(some bubinga finishes or vertical grain rosewood).

I like the marbling effect, but not the color. I'd probably like it more if it were a darker marble. But I'd probably still stick with basic black if actually choosing my own piano, as that is guaranteed to fit just about any interior color/style.

I will say it's visually stunning, though.

Do they have one in tumbled Travertine? It would go well in my bathroom, I really need accompaniment when I sing in the shower.

It would look nice in the atrium at the House of Congress or at the Lincoln Memorial. smile

Whoever did the faux marble really knew what (s)he was doing. Actually, I kinda like it. I wouldn't want it in my home, but I can think of places where it would look great!

Everyone says that Stienway builds a solid piano. Well, there's proof!

Who bought it anyway? Fred and Wilma or Betty and Barney?

Is this for people who have bathrooms of gigantic size and need a piece of furniture to fill the space?

Excellent work! But I think it might look better in your house.

I'll be in the store on Friday. Hope it's still there so I can meet it in person.

No, thank you, I'd pass on the faux marble effect.
I, would, however, sacrifice and accept a REAL black marble (is there such a thing?) piano.
Keep that in mind....

If it was real marble, I would buy an "Easy open" lid!

I like it but prefer black. Now all you need is a marble statue seated at the piano.

Hmmmm I'm very unconvinced! I'm afraid I'm in the 'pianos are supposed to be black' camp! Very clever effect, though!

I wouldn't do this to a 10-year-old Steinway. Perhaps to an older inexpensive Indonesian baby grand?

I'm also an anti-black person. Pianos in the home should blend with the furnishings and decor. In my home, that's neither black nor marble.

I think it came that way from the Steinway factory.
