Hi all,
Brand new here today and looking for any knowledgeable help.
I have a 7' Yamaha ebony grand piano. It says it's a model G7, with a serial # of 354,xxx.
When I looked around on the web, I found that that serial # is dated as a 1982.

I'm in a position where I'm currently looking to sell this, but don't know what the true value is. It is in very, very good cosmetic shape, and exquisite playing condition.

Anyone with any good info, insight, or direction would be of great help to me. I thank you in advance.

The Piano Book offers this depreciation schedule for pianos up to 30 yrs old or so.

http://www.pianobuyer.com/spring12/65.html

But I have no idea where you can get the value to index from.

Probably $10,000-$15,000.... depending on your location, and how quickly you need to sell.

Thanks for the note. How did you arrive at that price range, and can you steer me to a link or site?
I'm in the greater NYC area, and I am looking to sell it soon.

Maestro54, I'm not sure of the age of your piano. I have a G7 whose serial is 416452, and it was made in 1965. Are you sure that your is not a 1962?

Maestro54, I just checked, and your serial number puts it as a 1964. Nothing wrong with that! I may be wrong, but if the piano is in cared-for condition, pinblock, soundboard, decent strings, etc. I would suspect that it is at least $10,000 to the right buyer. That's a big piano, it is 7'3". Unfortunately , not everyone wants, or has room for one that big. (I love mine, but may be biased!)
Here's a link to a photo of mine, I'm sure that they could be twins: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thetandyman1/

I arrived at that range by looking at what used Yamaha C7s are currently listed for on eBay, Pianomart, etc. Being in NYC, you can probably expect to be on the higher end, but if the piano was built in the '60s, like one poster suggested, you should expect less, and perhaps less than $10k.
