Today I paid off and brought home my RD300NX. It was Christmas today! I also sold my old cheap casio digital to the local pawn shop and finished paying off my Dr. Dre Beats headphones. Took until 10:00pm tonight to get it set up and ready for me to play.

OMG, I love her! What a beautiful piano! It blew my old accoustic right out the window. Playing was very tough. The keys are super heavy compared to anything else I've ever played on. Playing took way more out of me than usual. I can feel how uneven my playing is. I'm hesitent (mind you the keys are also farther apart then usual.) My tone and dynamics are outright terrible. I'm so impressed! I will make excellent progress on it. And the sound. WOW. Not what I would think a mere digital could produce.

I bought it without trying it. I tried a different Roland model in the store. So tonight was all new!

Enjoy, Becca. Roland beats the pants off Casio in terms of touch and tone. Of course, it's quite a bit more expensive so it should do.

Excellent news old girl, you deserve it, youve waited long enough and worked hard to scrimp and scrape to get it... bravo.

Cant wait to hear you play, looking great.

Congrats on your new piano!
I know you'll enjoy playing a lot more.
I did the same - from a casio to a roland in May and my playing has improved a lot.

Congrats! I got that exact keyboard to replace my old one when it died on me. Played a show with it the next day! Of course I was worried how it would do. I love it! Always been a fan of Roland. I like that board because of it's heavy action. I thought it was even heavier than the 700's action.

As far as the evenness of tone and dynamics, you can set the touch to match your playing style. I often change the velocity response to a heavier setting because the factory usually puts it on a lighter touch, assuming people have less finger strength. Almost always when I get a new keyboard, it gets loud before I want it to. Experiment with the settings, it might not be you.

Enjoy!

Well I figured out what the problem is. I'm too high up! Time to cut the bench again. frown We tried rasing the stand for the board and it put it around my shoulders on the next setting! LOL. I felt like a little kid.

It's still a heavy action, but fixing my seating should reduce my arm and shoulder fatigue.. I hope.. LOL

good luck, BeccaBb. My (piano-related) life was improved considerably when a friend loaned me an adjustable bench. Sitting at the right height is so important. I can't wait to hear some recordings from your new piano :-)

Just wanted to say thanks to Brian! I remembered you had said to change the touch on the settings as that might be the problem. Well I finally got frustrated enough that I went through the book and changed my setting to heavy. Turns out the medium is also too light for me. I can FINALLY get P, or PP from it. (Haven't tried the PPP yet. lol)

I've also ordered a high end drummer seat today, as I'm still having sitting issues. It's nicely padded, and adjusts! So when it arrives I hope it will put this issue to rest once and for all! smile

I'm hoping my first recording will be in November smile
