Hi there. This is my first recording posted to the forum. I started this scherzo a little over a week ago and worked on it some with my teacher at my lesson this past week. I know it still needs a lot of work, the sound quality isn't too good, and my piano is in bad need of a tuning, but nonetheless, I would really appreciate any comments/opinions/suggestions. Thanks!

I'm not sure how to upload an audio file directly, so I'm just going to give the download link from Piano Street.

When you post, hit the icon that is blue (media tag) and copy the link to your post. Right now, the link does not work.

Most folks around here don't like downloading files. I don't know if you need a piano street account to view this but here:

Chopin Scherzo No. 2

Okay. Thanks PianoDad. And thank you Damon for posting the link.
I think mine makes you download it.

The link that you've added in this most recent post just takes us back to this post, but it downloads the file when doing so! That won't sit well with many of our members. However, Damon's link works.

I'm wondering, however, why you have chosen to post this recording when you've been working on this scherzo for such a short time. Don't you think that it's a little early for constructive criticism other than that from your teacher who knows your playing and what you need to work on, from a technical point of view?

Overall, it certainly sounds laboured and insecure at the moment, with tempo inconsistencies, but this seems only natural, given the short time you've been working on it. That said, there are moments that sound promising. That means that it probably has potential in your hands but at this point, those who don't know you couldn't predict what that potential is. While I would rather hear a more 'finished' product, others may feel differently.

Meanwhile, the out-of-tune piano is somewhat painful to listen to. I think the work shows promise, but it seems a little premature for interpretive comments.

Regards,

To Bruce,

The lesson in which we worked on this piece was actually my last lesson with my teacher until November. I'll be going off to school this Friday and will be meeting with a few different teachers for some trial lessons. I will most likely want to work on this in some of the lessons. That was my main reason for posting, but I also must admit that I didn't actually listen to the recording until today. My family wanted to record something before I left (with an iPad), so they made this recording. I didn't think it went too badly and therefore wanted to post it, but I'm not sure I would have had I listened to it beforehand. After I've gotten further along in learning it, I'll definitely post a more finished recording (on a tuned piano with a better microphone). And thank you very much for your comments!

ditto what Bruce has said.

I too find it promising. Just keep practicing slowly, paying close attention to every note you play and consistency on rhythm.

In this work, not a single note, chord, rest, nuance, pedal, accent, etc. can be seen unimportant or neglected. They are all equally important, and in the end it will be the sum of them that will make your playing good.

Keep up the good work and play on a well tuned piano next time please.
