Hey all hoping someone can help me out here

I currently serve in the NAVY so getting a full size piano is out of the question just looking for a compact synth or DP that has weighted keys Obviously not going to go full size 88 key but would be happy with around half that i dont no what the general sizes are though

Not really concerned with the synth or extra features as im more into classical piano

This is purely something for when im at sea, ashore i have a full size DP

thanks in advance for any help

For a Navy person, I suggest looking at an Ipad and using a keyboard attachment. The smallest ones have 25 mini keys. Some have 37 keys. These aren't anything like a piano. Many have small size keys. A person might have to play one hand at a time and then stitch them together to get a piano piece. However, the tiny size will likely fit into the space each person is given on a ship.

An Ipad has the bonus of its many other uses such as playing video, music and games. The Garage Band app is another $5 and a must have for a musician. Refurbished Ipads can be bought for competitive prices, and tend to be nicer than Android tablets.

Even a limited 49-key keyboard might be too big for a military ship's space allowance. A person can check the dimensions against the space allowances. I doubt it will be good news for an enlisted person or a low level officer. I see Australia on the location, but I would tend to believe space allotments are similarly strict.

How about the new Roland A-49 and an iPad/laptop?

The key range may be rather limiting, but it's a compact setup and certainly better than nothing.

The smallest readily available keyboard with weighted keys is the Studiologic VMK-161 Plus... 61 keys, and 33 lbs, and it has no sounds, so you'd have to hook it up to something (like maybe your computer) to get any sound out of it. More keys but physically smaller is the foldable VAX77 from Infinite Response... not truly weighted, but by all accounts, still a nice action for playing piano. Again, it has no sounds built in, and it is rather pricey we well.

Non weighted but arguably passable actions for playing the piano on lighter and cheaper boards that have built in sounds would be the Yamaha NP-30 and the Casio XW-P1. The Yamaha has speakers, but you could use headphones with either.

The idea of an even smaller keyboard and an iPad is interesting. You'd have to see if you can find a smaller keyboard that has a tolerable action. I've been meaning to check into the sounds that come with the Sampletank app. Garageband is a cool app, but it's polyphony for piano is minimal, which may be an issue.
