Hi guys and girls...

After many years of playing i have decided to purchase a decent piano, so far i've been through a baby grand, straight strung acoustic upright and 3 digital piano's... Just ordered the new model ca95, will be arriving within the week. There is no reviews of this model on here... so if anyone can give any opinions that would lead me to change my order before it arrives i'll be most appreciative. Originally i was going to get the clp470pe but on reading the forums the general concensus is the ca93 is a better machine... with the additional key sensor being the main reason i have decided to go for the newer version ca95... havent played it but the ca93 has lovely touch so hoping for more of the same with the ca95. Cost wise, the clp470pe would have been 2450, versus 2610 for the ca95.. (english pounds) My girlfriend thinks we should have bought a couple of beagle puppys instead :0)

I don't think they have released the ca95 in the states yet.. But I was wondering after going through a few acoustic and digital pianos.. Why are you sticking with digital? I'm currently debating selling my grand to get a high end digital such as the new CA series to save a lot of space.. And also to play late night

Exactly the same reasons your considering a dp instead of your grand piano. No matter what i play, anything but a grand/baby grand isnt quite the same after using one regularly... but i guess i am an old romantic! You know how everyone has an opinion on dp's versus acoustic for preference.. well for me, a good quality dp with the benefits of no tuning/volume control and headphone sockets will always be a smarter choice... I'd have a grand too if possible..! The quality of key stroke movement is adequate imo these days to disregard the haters of digital pianos.. it certainly hasnt always been that way though, i've had some poor pretenders to the acoustic throne :0)

@Gatsbee13,

I believe that the latest word from Kawai is that they are now shipping the new CA95's / CA65's as we speak, and, should reach most local stores (in the US) in just a couple of weeks, or so.

Hello Everyone:

I was at my local piano store yesterday, and I can confirm they do, indeed, have the new Kawai CA 95 on their showroom floor. In addition, the salesman did confirmed that they are expecting a shipment of Kawai CA 65 to arrive in a couple more weeks, as well.

On a more serious note, the salesman was trying to offload a brand new CA 63 for 3188 USD. /barf

@Sgt T,

Did you note as to what the CA95 was selling for, and, what is the name of your store and where is it located?

@ pv88

The store: So Cal Pianos is located in San Marcos, CA (North County of San Diego). As in terms of price, I didn't ask about the price tag of the Kawai CA 95 because its outside of my budget. All though, I could swing by tomorrow after my computer class since its located within proximity of my college.

Wow, 3100+ for a ca63?! I think there is a posting in 'prices paid' for 2999 + delivery for a ca65 out the door.

Looks like they are not going to sell that ca95 for a good discount.

Of course, this is without negotiating down the price. I'm pretty sure with some constructive dialogues being exchanged from both parties- dealer and buyer - that an arrangement could be reached on a much lower price, making both parties happy.

Still, I did find it mind-boggling to a certain degree that the dealer would sell the Kawai CA 63 for 3188, which is a discontinued model.

Once again, I want to make it aware that there was no negotiating in terms of price. My main mission, yesterday, was to browse for a digital piano to replace my rental, which is an archaic Technics PCS-25.

Congratulations on your new KAWAI CA95!
This is probably the post I was looking for.

You said you've been playing on a baby grand, so , when the CA95 arrives, will you write a review comparing your baby grand vs the CA95?

Currently I have a CA93, but I am interested on the new CA95.
There's only one KAWAI dealer in my country and I can buy any KAWAI piano through them, but they don't have any CA series to show in stock.

@pelota ;With a ca93 already i'm wandering why you would want to upgrade to a ca95... I dont imagine there will be many improvements warranting the extra spend.. Are you happy with your ca93?

@xhappyrabbitx,

I think that I can answer your question:

I believe that "Pelota" (above) mentioned wanting the better three sensor action in the new CA95 allowing for faster response of repeated notes, as the CA93 only has two sensors. Here is the original thread:

Yes, i've read all that thread and am now quite confident in my choice... although proof will be in the playing... Strangely my local dealer had the ca93 advertised at £60 more than the ca95.. I really am taking a bit of a gamble as there is neither the 95 or 93 available for me to play at the dealership. I played a ca93 last year so i'm not entirely flying blind... very much enjoyed the movement and sound. I've noticed the inconsistency of trill replication with all my dp's, it will be a very welcome bonus if i can work on my weaknesses with the confidence in consistant performance from the piano.

The new triple sensor action in the CA95 will give you the best playing experience, as the older CA93 only has two sensors.

That was my basis for choosing the ca95, though until someone actually gets to play one the jury is still out. I'm not hopefull of it being delivered this week as Dawsons music shop havent confirmed they have received it from Kawai yet... Must be one of the first in the uk as all the shops i enquired at didnt have any stock in... exciting times :0)

Dawson's dave: Errr , i'm really sorry but no its a clp470pe....

me: Well thats the piano i ordered a week ago and then changed my order on monday to the CA95, paid the extra by card to your colleague..

Dawsons Dave:Oh dear... It seems there has been a mixup... We'll have some headphones thrown in and have it to you within 7 days.

That's unfortunate .. I would if asked for a discount due to their mistake.. I would of said something like "I had a party arranged for following weekend that was centered around the piano, now I have to cancel"..

Anyways, there is 1 local dealer here in LA that carries the Roland v-piano and now has the ca-95 on display.. I might swing by this weekend to check them out.. I have played on the Ca63/93 at the same store but he no longer carry them.. So I can't do a side by side..

I'll keep you informed if I'm able to visit the store.

I'd already used up all my sneakyness yesterday by leaving work 2 hours early to go sit at the keys.. they phoned me on the way home and I was in a good mood... may have lost out on a money saving opportunity their!

Hope you get down to play them.... if you hate the ca95 keep it to yourself, I'm not changing my order haha ;-)

It's turned up, have my 3 year old daughter all weekend though so won't get a good go on it till tomorrow evening.... initial thoughts are pointless as I haven't had any peace... and it's not at my house as were moving back to the home farm... so we installed it there. Will update when I've had a few hours to myself:-)

After 3 hours these are my opinions:

Build: solid, good looking... when it turned up there are a couple of issues...

Key bed not uniform gaps between keys. Kawaijames, in another thread covered this as being due to the keys not clipped in like plastic keys and to be honest i'll only kick up a fuss if any start to rub... which they do not at the moment.

Either side of the key bed there is two small sections of wood that have shoddy finish... there only an inch long and because there mirrored i presume its just a minor manufacturing fault. Its very minor, i'm picky.

A couple of the black keys have scuff marks down the sides, permanent.

So the finish isnt perfect, i'm not going to make grief as its been 3 weeks to get the thing and there very minor aesthetic blemishes.... Still... at £2610 I expected quality control to be better. (if Kawai want to send me a piano stool to make up for this i'll be most happy... as it didnt come with one. )

Playing experience: I changed my opinion in the three hours considerably. Turning off the reverb improved the sound, concert grand is actually my prefered mode at the moment... The sound has grown on me considerably and has brought me back to memory's of my grand. The string resonance and quality of sampling is really lovely. I left tonight wanting to play more. The feel and feedback is very rewarding, the soundboard (given enough volume) fed back vibrations to my fingers and my feet(no shoes). Touch is very pleasing indeed,it'll take more than my experience so far to appreciate it fully but i am happy. Trills are consistent,f and p so that third sensor may well be making a positive difference, i certainly cant criticise the control so far.

Thats about it for now... Disapointed with the marks on the keys mainly but the piano is so far making me a happy bunny. Dont really care about the other functions or sounds so wont bother commenting on them.

Paul

Hello Paul,

Thank you for posting your review.

While I'm not responsible for technical support, I would suggest contacting the shop and/or Kawai UK to inform them of the scuff marks on the sides of some black keys, and perhaps send some pictures too. I obviously cannot guarantee anything from this end, however it's possible that the scratched keys can be replaced under warranty.

Kind regards,
James

@xhappyrabbitx,

Sorry to hear of the minor issues you have had, although I have had a couple of things to tend to with my new CA95, as well. Just sent you a PM with a few other details.

I wonder if someone could clarify one point I wish to be clear about regarding the Kawai CA95 / CA65 models.

I believe it has been suggested that the sound engines for the CA65 and CA95 are identical so that if you are using headphones with them, you are getting the same sound with each and the soundboard in the CA95 has no effect whatsoever with the sound.

It makes sense that this would be the case. I just want confirmation that it is, in fact, the unqualified truth.

Yes, that is the case and the Let-Off is the same for both as well.

However, the amplifier sections are different but should not be at all noticeable wit headphones.
